Heh. Lately, I've been playing somewhat frequently on this one Québec server. Sure their French is so mumbled, slurred, and slang-riddled (and their microphones so bad) that I understand maybe half of what they're saying on a good night, but it's actually the best overall server I've played on in a looonnnng time. The maps are mostly stock, the settings are stock, they have a good rotation, the teams really tend to be balanced, there's an almost total absence of idiot team-griefers or spamming fools, and the players even have good teamwork (usually) or at least know what to do.

But, the funny part is when someone from TT or here joins my game and is Lost In A World Beyond Their Comprehension.

I've never even thought of playing on a Québec server. It already bugs me enough when my second language is mangled by its native speakers...

Though I'm almost tempted to pop in and see how bad it is, heh.

That reminds me: Is there any particular reason that Duo-Tangs are a meme in Québec besides just "the word sounds funny, no matter what language it's used in"?

I'm pretty sure this is the first mention of the term "Duo-Tang" I've seen or heard in over 15 years, so I don't know what to tell you. I mean, I know what they are, but I haven't had a reason to even think about them since way back when, and their culture value was absolutely nil at the time.

That said, I'm hardly the guy to talk to if you need a finger on the pulse of la jeunesse québécoise. :whoops:

Same here. But apparently that word is current among the under-18 Québecois in the same way the word "smurf" is current among blue three-apple-tall mushroom-dwellers.

Colour me confused.

So does anyone play on the new SHMO?  It's at 8.2.122.143:27015 apparently.  It also needs to be updated before anybody can play it on it.

There has to be a way to let other non-Brentai people restart the server when needed.

You can do it remotely with R-Con if you are given the R-con password.

So I was trying the pack someone put together for ultra-low grade computers. It features a number of things to improve your FPS, basically giving you Doom-era textures super low-poly player models and a few other fixes. It's basically a compilation of all the fixes listed here.

I did get a noticeable improvement in FPS, up to roughly 25-45 average (this was especially noticeable in firefights, when I used to drop to less than 10 FPS easily), but there was a little problem: Weapons started to become invisible. This wasn't too bad for things like rocket launchers or grenade launchers, as the halos/trails still showed shot location. But it becomes interestingly difficult to play when all buildings become completely invisible. To say nothing of trying to play engie*

In the end, an improvement in FPS was useful, but still doesn't address the fact that the resolution I play on is so low that mouse stutter is entirely unavoidable. Oh well, I least I don't feel so bad for being awful now. I always knew this computer put me at a disadvantage, but until I tried Starr's computer I had no idea just how deep a hole that was.

But I did want to mention the low-poly pack, because it IS pretty useful for increasing FPS, so long as you don't mind the game looking worse than Quake I on low settings.

*I did play a round on Badwater that was grand fun.

I started Blue, playing Soldier. We steamrolled all the way to the second-last point and I was top-3ing with ROKKITZ, but then I was autobalanced. Red had no engies so I switched. By depending on conventional sentry placement, force of habit, and muscle memory, I was able to build and maintain sentries etc. even though all my buildings were totally invisible. Red won with me still top-3-ing. That was thrilling, but not an experience I'd care to repeat.

Weapons becoming invisible happens to everyone basically at random. Next time it happens, open the console and type
Code: [Select]
record fix;stop
That might do it. Otherwise I think you need to try cl_reloadhud or cl_reloadallmaterials or something

If those don't work, then I really dont know
