Best personal moment tonight was near the beginning when it was just me (Spy) versus Duke (Engineer) and Slime (Sniper) on Turbine.  I Cloak and Daggered in the room with Duke, disguised as Slime, waited for Slime to leave, then used the voice command for Help!.  LD inquired over voice why the hell he needed help, then ran out into the hallway to go help him while I uncloaked and sapped all her shit all the way to death.   :perfect:

Geo rises from the ashes.

Yeah, I gotta admit, the Dead Ringer was a lot of fun tonight despite any nerfs. It's not a great watch on most maps, but on any map where the the team's aren't clearly on opposite ends of the map from eachother, it can really shine.

When the bullets start flying and people start going down left and right, that fake fallen spy is really all the misdirection you need to back stab a whole cart pushing team. It's definately the watch for the kind of spy I like playing, the spy who sticks to attacking the enemy's frontline rather than trying to catch people out of their spawn or hunt down snipers.

My favourite moment was definately this time on Pipeline where I left a dead ringer after a pyro ignited me, only to get pushed onto a pill bottle immediately and become extinguished. The illusion was flawless. This all happened in the other team's little sniper box thing. A sniper immediately stepped through the gate door and infront of me... Well, a loud decloak noise, dead sniper, dead pyro and dead demo later and I was safely in the water below.

Me getting dead ringer by stabbing Duke so she changed to pyro made my day.

Didn't play with you guys, but I did play with a ping under 100 for the first time in weeks! No unlocks, but I doubled my top soldier score, then nearly doubled it again*. Don't know why not playing causes me to become drastically better with soldier, but I'm not complaining.

*however, my top soldier score before was 3. eheheh. eheheheh. yeah.

Steel is not that hard, people.

There's more than one way to every point for a reason.

Corollary: It is possible for the defense to get to A directly from their spawn!  So, like, you should go there occasionally at the beginning of the round!

Man, that was a terrible round of Steel to begin, but then it got better so it was okay.  But being initially steamrolled was a pretty good moodkiller.

No LD, this is TF2, this is serious, it is more important than religion, work, and family. IT IS A GAME, do you not understand this?  If you are a pyro in the game you must be a pyro in real life, or else you are not hardcore.

Okay, back to work.

I don't think I'd really like to set people on fire.  I don't even like to toast marshmallows over a campfire.

Steel really is such an easy map. There are signs EVERYWHERE. I wish I had that diagram of Steel from an overhead perspective--it really helps a lot of people. I think the best thing to remember is that when you're RED, after A and B are taken, you change spawn rooms. So many people don't realize that!

I was a LOT better Spy than I have been recently. I keep messing up at the moment of truth and sending my backstab flying wildly and getting a slash at most before being eaten.

ENGINEER IS CREDIT TO TEAM THOUGH :perfect:

The entire point of engineer is to put people where they need to be, even if they don't know it yet.

Extra points to those of you who actually listen when I say things like "Don't use the teleporter until X point falls.",  Niku was spot-on for using that thing at the right time, just as the previous point was at 90% cap.

Steel is a pretty tricky map for a TF2 map, but I say that with the same level of meaning as when I say a banana is a pretty tricky fruit in comparison to an apple, because you don't have to peel an apple. What I mean is. It's a confusing map when you are first presented with it, but if you just pay attention, it's really not that hard to figure out. I mean, it has a lot of big landmarks.

You just need to get where all the hallways between its many rooms and courtyards actually lead to firmly into your brain. The most important aspects being how A and B work in relation to RED's first spawn room, how A and B link up to E after A is captured, and how C, D, and E all link up to RED's second spawn room.. It's really not that complicated, but it's also not obvious and you need to get it into that brain of your's. Once you have that basic understanding of the map, all you then need if you wanna be a steel pro, is just to understand how E attaches to all four other points and what flanking possibilities that affords you and exactly how all the point caps change the map.

the problem with steel is that it has a lot of little nooks and corridors in the last area that all look sort of the same

TF2 has basically two kinds of terrain

- large open areas that are easy to get around
- mazes of 3d corridors that are a pain to get your bearings in

you do realize you can upgrade an entrance or exit to level 3 before you plant the other end
