I've personally just been FEELING the medic lately. It doesn't help that, apparently, I came out of the gate great at it :D

I think I'd like to take some credit for all of these soldiers.

I see medics less than any other class, no matter what server I go to. I really like being the medic, because I'm good at it and it usually gives my team a huge advantage over the enemy. If I can convince other people to be one of the least appreciated classes (appreciated as in "I wanna be the Medic," not appreciated as in "FUCK YEAH WE GOT A MEDIC"), then all the better.

Being a Medic when your team will help you is the greatest thing on earth because you will be 99% responsable for your team becoming the Fist of God, turning everything in front of it into ash.

It's when your team doesn't help you that makes me want to never play medic.

My team not helping me medicize them is why I went W+M1 pyro last night (admittedly, it was mostly that Nic guy letting a scout kill me as I was calling for him to turn around that really did it). Usually I have a better buddy, though.

The other night when I was on ShoMo was a bizarrely bad night as Medic. We were on Gullywash  with 5-6 man teams and no medics and like 3 soldiers on either side. The obvious move to me in such a case was "GO MEDIC GO MEDIC GO MEDIC".

I helped somewhat for a while, but then got trapped in some kind of alternate respawn hell, where the soldiers and I would always respawn in alternate waves. So I would go looking for someone - anyone - to heal and suddenly run into four of the enemy team and be blown to smithereens before I could even retreat. Then the rest of our boys were chewed up in a 4v3 and the process would repeat itself. Repeatedly. I kept trying to wait, or position myself to break the cycle and synch up with the team, but eventually I just gave up and reverted back to soldier.

Though killing patito and another soldier while they were capping our point by firing the needlegun at them through a TINY crack (what amounts to a couple of inches) in the wall almost made up for that.

If you need your team to HELP you M1 you're doing it wrong. Of course, you should be at the front lines where the fighting is actually going down, and if anyone expects you to pull your ass off the front lines to heal them, to hell with them.

I think Lyrai is referring to the people who will call for medic and keep running into the meatgrinder and die, never getting healed because the medic never caught up to them in the first place. Same thing with scouts that run AROUND the medic while spamming medic, expecting the medic to be able to click on him when he is buzzing around like an idiot.

There are people who are jerks to medics and get angry when they don't get healed, but I think a lot of the time it's just a lack of information on both ends. Medics aren't magic, but the hurt do not necessarily know where the medic is and may know things the medic doesn't about the situation. When I am in critical need of healing, I hit the medic button. Then I pull out my equalizer unless I know the medic is right there. I have to retreat to live and I might pass a medic who is like "DUUR EQUALIZER". Not that I mind, it tells me I passed a medic, but still. It seems to ignore the fact I am running for my life.

At the same time I'm sure any decent medic has had a soldier pounding E with the equilizer out right in front of them.

Generally though it's reasons like this that I tend not to get annoyed at what people do or my team. My expectations are always that I have to rely on my self to survive and no one is going to notice me enough to puff me or throw piss at me or heal me. People got shit going on and concerns of there own. So I hope medics understand my situation, because I understand theirs and am not going to cry if they don't feel like chasing after the soldier with the equalizer out -- heck, they probably shouldn't. If I didn't notice them, thats my fault and they should go be useful to someone else unless they feel generous enough to alert me of their presence. Only time I can ever get slightly annoyed at medics is when they get heavy tunnel vision. Especially at the start of the round where I can start rocket jumping to the point with a little juice and the Heavy will be overhealed still, LONG before getting near anyone. Even thats just a slight annoyance.

I only tend to get annoyed at catastrophic levels of incompetence.

One I sometimes find oddly frustrating is when I play medic and nobody hits the medic key at all, so I have no idea if anyone's hurt or where they are.

But then I usually just tell people to call for medic if that happens.

Actually, that reminds me of something funhny from Starr, who plays way more Medic than I do.

She hates those players who spam medic at full health while surrounded by hurt teammates who actually NEED the services of a Medic. Why? Because he wants you to sit there and build an uber so he can then run into the enemy and do something colossally dumb.

She describes this as "idiots who want to take a joyride in your ambulance."

When I'm medic, I have a problem with cap points. We are all standing there and there's one or two guys with low health. The rest are full. Unfortunately, I can't get clicked on the guys who need healing because of the other people in the way. So I run around and then get shot, then the hurt guys die, then we lose the point.
Any suggestions? I almost want to say something over voice but that seems silly.

I probably change classes more than anyone.  The only class I almost never play is Medic.  I'll probably be changing that.

Really?

I always thought that caused YOU to call for medic automatically when hurt, regardless of class, like some spamming idiot.

I didn't realize it was a medic setting.

Ha!

I usually do spam for medic when at full health as a soldier or a demo, because I just want a little boost so I can rocket jump. That's also usually not a problem if the medic has been overhealing his teammates a bit, instead of butt hugging a heavy like most pub medics.

Also, the medic auto heal call setting has a slider, make sure to set it up a bit lower than the default or you will have a bunch of medic icons popping all over the place.

Well, some of that bitching is invalid on ShMo, where you often know that someone calling for a medic at full health has a good reason (they want overheal, need it for a jump, want the support for a push), because you guys are not retarded, for the most part.

This + A complete lack of spychecking. While I try to whip around and Blutsager any suspiciously friendly Pyro or Demo coming up my back, you go a long way towards telling a MEdic  you are a good player by spraying behind you & your medic with bullets/fire every so often.
