While I grant we're 11 degrees over the average, "Phoenix hot in June" was still an entirely foreseeable turn of events.

Playing fooseball with a guy named Wil Meister on a porch and it's exactly like you'd expect.

Can we just rename this thread "A regular day for Lottel"?

Seen on a local law office front door: A sign reading "Appointment only. No Walkens." featuring a large picture of Christopher Walken.

One Walken is okay, though.

Riding the train to work is proving to be interesting.

Yesterday, a guy tried to pick a fight with me because I wouldn't throw away a half-eaten donut someone else had left behind.

Today, a guy jumped onto the train and tried to steal a lady's purse, but the other people near her fought him off, and he ran away. Afterwards, a little old lady said, "This is better than TV!"

In another episode of "Mongrel can't find something supposedly ubiquitous anywhere at any price", apparently nobody sells tater tots anymore? Like at all?

Over the course of the past two weeks, I've been to all the local chapters of the various large grocery chains in the city (for various things... I'm not actually hunting desperately just for tater tots) and not one of 'em had so much as a single tot.

Pretty much every store down here sells them somewhere in either the frozen vegetables or frozen meat (like, bags of drumsticks) isles.

Well, that USED to be the case here. Not quite sure what's going on now. For a long time I've only seen them in 1-2 chains regularly. Now, I dunno?

I don't eat frozen potato items that often, but when I do, I prefer them to be tater tots. It's like the perfect crossover between frozen hash browns and frozen french fry.

MY RESERVES ARE DWINDLING. WHATEVER SHALL I DO? (I'm sure I'll find some somewhere...)

I had a load of towels in my washing machine today. When I took them out, there was also a ruined cookbook inside.

Not sure how that happened.

Tying it all together: the cookbook had a really great recipe for tater tots.

Hanging out with younger friends is great because I when I approach I get to spin a chair around, sit in it backwards, and say "Hey kids, let's rap."

Hanging out with younger friends is awful because they don't get it.

For some reason today, I simply haven't gotten hungry.  I didn't eat much yesterday either, but at least I ate something of substance.  I've had a cafe au lait, two bottles of water and a bottle of green tea to drink, and a few high chews to eat today and I'm still not hungry.  Nor am I getting my usual bout of greatly increased stupidity that comes with not eating.  I was getting kinda hungry until I got to Akihabara, at which point it went away immediately, as did all the feelings of negativity which had plagued me this morning.  Apparently I have the magical ability to feed off of ambient nerdiness alone for short periods of time.

As a side note on Akihabara, the less specific shops had normal, completely non-nerdy items shockingly close to seriously nerdy/obscene shit.  Case and point; a case full of men's watches all of one display case away from tentacle porn figures, with naught but a moe anime figure collection as the buffer.  Or just nude figures right next to wallets.

There's a Magnum fashionable ice cream bar store in the expensive district downtown. I keep seeing lineups several blocks down for people waiting to get in. Just regular-looking folks.

Since I'd seen billboard ads for the stuff and was pretty sure that Magnum ice cream is sold elsewhere (i.e. this isn't really anything special at all), I assumed they were giving out freebies and commented to one person in line "Gee that's a long time to wait for free ice cream" to which she replied "It's not free".

Who the hell is lining up for two hours to buy ice cream you can get in a convenience store? I mean, even if I'm mistaken and it's only available in one outlet, how is a mass-market (albeit 'upscale') brand owned by friggin' Nestlé worth waiting in line for two hours for? I KNOW there's much better ice cream than that in this town. I could get some Kawartha Lakes or something.

For two hours, you could actually drive up to Bancroft and buy ice cream direct from the Kawartha Lakes dairy.

Plus you'd be in cottage country, which is nice.

Yeah, I googled it a bit and Magnum is supposedly comparable to Haagen-Daaz. Which is decent, but there are for sure better ice creams out there.

In an Episode of Outlaw Star, the b-plot involves more or less the situation you describe above. A shitload of people lining up to buy stall ice cream. At one point our intrepid heroes even get in the line and get it, to which they comment "Man this is kind of bland."

The psychic cactus pictured turns out to be the reason why everyone was going crazy for it, as it was influencing people into giving money to its owner.
