Funny that today's Google doodle should be Nicholas Steno, after I spent a bunch of time this evening reading about Pascale, Leibniz, and Spinoza.

A certain "Inspecteur Morin" left a message on my answering machine, wants me to call him back tomorrow. I looked up the number and it's some sort of PI agency, legit as far as I can tell. The way he said it though, had I not known better I would almost have been tempted to believe he was an actual cop. Even the name of the agency feels like it realllllly wants to be mistaken for a government thing.

Twice before I had some people trying to contact the old man who used to live in this apartment, once a bank and once some municipal official from a random village east of here, and that bugs me because it's not like I inherited his damn phone number. This time I kind of want to call back on account of courtesy and curiosity, but I'm not sure if I actually want anything to do with that sort of business, even remotely.

if you don't respond to a call from a PI you are refusing to let adventure into your life

Well, as long as by "adventure" you don't mean "big burly men who think I'm trying to hide something that stands between them and their paychecks"...

You never know. It could be a well-mannered, yet inept, detective with a thin moustache and a penchant for accidental slapstick.

Or the old man could've been a jewel thief in disguise. And everyone has ridiculous sideburns!

Today I was walking home from class into Eastern Michigan University's student ghetto, when I see a neighbor's cat sitting on a porch.  It was a cute, mid-sized calico with stripey patches more belonging on a tabby.  I'd seen it around the neighborhood before, a few times, but usually on the opposite side of the street, or while driving.  It meowed at me upon making eye-contact, so I walked up and petted it a bit, it was pretty much one of the friendliest cats ever.

It then walked over to the door of the house to which the porch belonged and began to alternate scratching at the door and turning around to meow at me, clearly wanting to be let in.  So I ring the doorbell and wait.  The resident opens the door while talking on his cellphone in a foreign language (either [whatever-language-they-speak-in-India] or maybe Arabic, if I had to guess), and the cat runs in as I briefly explain that the cat wanted in, expecting that would be the end of things.

Instead, the man informs me that he does not own a cat.  So I go in, remove the cat, apologize and finish my trip home.  As I turn to look back one last time to see what's become of the cat, I see that it is again scratching at the door.  As I leave, I hear it meow at me one last time.

I just laid a nugget in the shape of a bucky ball.

I did not test its tensile strength.

Another (minor) episode of "Mongrel can't find a supposedly ubiquitous object anywhere" today.

Was trying to find a pack of small ziploc bags. The only place that had them was a bong shop. LOL

Cripes man, there's a Sobeys within bike distance. Ziplocs are in the aisle with tinfoil and wax paper.

Not in my Sobeys. They only have the regular lunch-bag-sized ones.

Buying ziploc baggies. Do try to keep up Lottel!

What, that's not small enough for you? What are you doing, collecting toes?
