I was driving my brother home tonight, and we were coming up on the street with the annoying left turn (because there's no stop light), but it was late enough that I wasn't worried about having to wait forever for a chance to turn. Just as I was about to reach the stop sign, a car pulled out of one of metered spaces on the side of the road right in front of me. This was a little annoying, because I had to slow down much faster than I intended to, but I reasoned that the driver just didn't see me and decided to let it slide.
Then when the car got to the stop sign, instead of turning left or right or going straight, its hazard lights started blinking. Taking this to mean "I probably won't be going anywhere any time soon," I decided to just go to the next street over, which does have a stop light. Kind of frustrating, but still not really a big deal.
So I start backing up slowly, intending to pull into a driveway or parking lot or something and turn around to go around the block, but before I can the car goes in to reverse and speeds past me, narrowly threading between me and two pedestrians in the process. It comes to a stop before hitting another car that's coming down toward the stop sign.
Instead of waiting around to find out what the heck, I decide this is my chance to make my left turn, but as we're driving home my brother and I start to find this more strange and bewildering the more we talk about it. By the time we arrive home we both agree that we're glad I had a passenger with me to witness it.
