Not sure what was up with Brent's ping, but I seemed to be able to host satisfactorily otherwise. No guarantees that will always be the case, the school network is finicky about prioritizing high-bandwidth activities.

It was pretty fun at first, but then I was frozen by lag every few seconds. Maybe next time.

Yeah, please someone else host next time. Or maybe we could crash another server. That was way more frustrating than fun tonight.

anyway, sorry about the lag problems, we'll try again soon. thanks everyone who played.

Looking at the network stats, I am less than surprised that the school network is being hammered at capacity on a Saturday evening.  ::(:

I've got a server up.  Maybe.  Pile in and see if it lets anybody at all connect/doesn't explode when more than three people are on it.

Wait, you were running a server on a school network?

Jesus, no wonder things were fucked.

Well I can host three people and can't host at least one in particular.

Yaaaay.

As it happens I just finished (I think D:) setting up a server for TF2—and don't worry, that page scales very nicely. Go ahead! Change your browser's dimensions! You can't break it until you go smaller than the minimum TF2 resolution.

It's technically been set up for another forum, but since I have to play TF2 on Norondor's computer I figure I may as well let him use it. It's not on now, but I will teach him how to turn it on later and do things that are cool so you can have a private server if you want or whatever.

It's got all the stock maps, but not in standard rotation (you can go to Dustbowl or Well if you really want to but they don't exist outside of admins choosing them if I did it right); maps change every 35 minutes or if an admin does it or via Rock the Vote. There are two custom maps on there as well: pl_cashworks_b2 and pl_cranetop_b7. I think most custom maps are awful but those two are gems. These also aren't in standard rotation but iirc they are in the RTV options. I was having a couple issues with them before though which I will iron out later.

The server is I think in Ohio, and I was getting ~90 ping earlier tonight, but then later realized my Internet was being taken up by torrents so maybe it is even better than 90! 90 from CA to OH isn't too bad anyway, I don't think.

Anyway I just wanted you to know that maybe if he is around you can bother Norondor to at least turn it on. T&BB probably won't be using it a terrible lot.

uhhhhh if you ever play on this and notice something wonky you should shoot me a PM or an email or whatever is within your comfort zone ok bye and also if you for some reason want a bad custom map uploaded you have to ask me also ok bye for realsies

I may be dumb or something, but I can't find the server address on your post, this makes me sad.

I didn't put it in there because it wasn't on and I had some tinkering to do but! I was just coming back to post the IP. It's 134.53.148.149. I don't think anyone is playing now but I could be wrong? I also have no way to come on and kick people because Norondor is asleep. I am gonna make a few people at T&BB admins and probably at least one of you guys just for that purpose.

Private server shopping, out of curiosity.

24 slot private, $23.95 / month at gameservers. (99 cents per slot).

24 slot $46.80 / mo at FPSgameservers.  Allows choice of server location, allows adding custom maps. (1.45 a slot)

Paying one dollar a month means serious business.*

Legitimate business.

:disapprove: Why weren't you at Saturday night's practice?
:;-(: The fun is gone. This is a chore.
:disapprove: Sometimes, I doubt your commitment to Business Motion.

How was the server performance last night?

Always get pings of about 80 on average with most people, starting to consider that actually getting a more permanent server would be a good idea, that way I wouldn't have to be around to start it up whenever people feel like playing, but then again it's not like we'd be playing on it all day. I'm still not sure why we aren't playing on meadowtron's server instead though.

Ideally we could set up a pub with member-reserved slots.  That way we can always count on finding the people who actually like playing with the WFE group there any time of day without it necessarily being a <10-man circle jerk.

BONUS: It'd also curtail the more obnoxious behaviors of this group (yes I found the radio chatter kind of annoying too but not enough to make any sort of a deal out of it).  I've played with almost all of you on pubs, and I know you don't act like that in mixed company.

Plus if we were all on the same team instead of always fighting each other, I'm pretty sure it'd take 12 incarnations of God to stop us.
