The Mayor - Chapter 3 - Redwood Tomb

Elected Command: Return to the tomb, investigate.

From the beginning then.

Peering back down into the Redwood Tomb, the staircase appears deceptively darker than before. With a wry click of his tongue, The Man descends.

Upon his fourth step down, the snapping of a branch is heard. The moonlight dies a quick death as the sturdy doors alarmingly slam shut behind him.

Had someone been watching from above? Had they locked him in?

The darkness is now absolute, save for the exception a faint, green glow emitting from the foot of the staircase.

“Ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on.” The Man huffs to himself.

Once below, the glow has grown readily stronger, illuminating the underground chamber enough to provide an opportune study. Walls covered in deep, indecipherable etchings. Four corners, tall statues of faceless angels bordering each. A wide, stone slab placed in the center. The slab The Man had been lying upon. The slab which now grows brighter with each passing moment.

A cutting wind whips through the chamber, followed by an echoing cackle. The slab gently lifts from the floor, and like rain hitting a riverbed, breaks apart, fragments dangling in the air. The mad cackling envelops the room, as the slab pieces back together.

The Man watches on without a trace of emotion.

Reformation finalized, a demon now stands before The Man. It is the blackened skeleton of a grizzly bear, coated in dirtied bandages, eyes aflame in green. A musty top hat resides upon its flattened skull.

“Bara bara, bara bara. Feeble man, you dare leave the clutches of I, the Demon Lord BaraBara?” The demon seethes.

The Man responds, “Demon Lord… Barbara?”

“BARABARA!” The demon snaps back.

“You have grown weak over time, as I have devoured the remnants of your broken soul. Now awakened, I may finish my meal. Yet, your will has proven stronger than that of the countless other feeble men tossed my way. Form a pact with me, and I shall allow you passage.”

A twisted grin forms across the demon’s jawline.

The Mayor can afford to mess around with this demon for a bit. A pact is just another chance for The Mayor to take advantage of a situation. This demon doesn't stand a chance, so 3.

The answer is just obvious here..

All choices along The Path of Election carry their own rewards and punishments. The difference among them being just which way the scale of judgment tips.

Choose wisely, mahboi.

Do you really want to go down this tomb with me?

It's like we're not even really given a choice here.  The Mayor is a pinnacle of pure, unadulterated greatness that he would never stoop to association with a common demon who cackles like a fat guy on the internet.  And he would never flee from any enemy, ever.  So really, 2 is the only sensible option we can take.

Punch him. Lord Barabara is useless; didn't even realize that The Mayor had got up and left, and was only able to do anything because The Mayor desired the Morph Ball power-up.

The son of a bitch eats Hizzonor's soul and now he wants to try and cut a deal with him?  Fuck that noise, punch 'em in the snout to establish superiority.  Then keep punching him until a better option presents itself.

You know, after some thought, I've realized that immediately jumping into a situation fist flying is both undiplomatic and a little bit barbaric.  Despite his gay night club appearance, the Mayor should be slightly more sophisticated than that.  By making a deal, we can both gain an advantage on this demon and use his knowledge and service for our own gain.

Changing my vote to number 1.

I agree with Constantine.  Babs has some of The Mayor's essence, and he needs it back in order to survive the coming Election.  Besides, he's The Mayor.  We can always Xanatos Gambit our way out of it later, most likely ending with the facepunching.

Babs will be face punched, but it is not yet his time.

I thought about it some more. I'm not opposed to making use of Babs, but still, fuck this pact shit. If The Mayor is going to make use of him, it's best to show him who's boss. And then we're taking that Top Hat.

ADDENDUM:
unless babs is the top hat.
