Apparently yes, because he is in a refuse pile now.

Those demons will be pissed now that you killed their ambassador.

He was actually the human ambassador (!?), so as long as the entire civ hasn't been taken over by demons, I should be alright.  I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Life imitates art: 30-Pound Carp Attacks Kayaker During Missouri River Race

Quote
“It’s definitely a risk of being out on the river,” said Tracy Hill of the US  Fish and Wildlife Service. “It’s extremely serious. Those things can kill you.”  According to Hill, the 30-pounder that hit Pennington could’ve been a lot bigger. “These fish can grow into 70 or 80 pounds.”

The Tale of Bravemule is my favorite such story yet. Illustrations interspersed with Stonesense screenshots and text from the various dwarves themselves. Still pretty early, though, so there's only 2 years of content.

Newbie: The artist of Bravemule was working on another project a while back and I thought it might be of interest to you.

Dwarf Fortress Lite?

I don't really know how I feel about this.

I now know EXACTLY where to find people to be obnoxiously snobbish towards.

It looks like dwarf fortress with less complexity.... I thought the feeling of "holy crap, I figured something out!" was half of the point of dwarf fortress... Not sure I would like Dwarves!? nearly as much as the real thing.

Dwarf Fortress is a huge timesink where I never got the payoff that I wanted. There was never a point where I thought "Aww man my fortress is AWESOME!" I started getting nobles and then the game started getting less fun and I quit.

Dwarves!? is pretty much a casual game that will hook people because people love the shit out of games where you dig with dwarves. There was that Delve Deeper game that came out a while ago that was sort of the same way.

But... losing is fun! I like fortresses that fail epically more than fortresses that are "awesome". My best fortress ever held of a siege, but then got hit by a second, larger one, and was obliterated. I enjoyed the second siege more than the first.

I never got to the losing part. My fortress just slowly grows and is isolated aside from traders every year. No monsters, no sieges, and the only exciting thing I ever had was a lava pool that had a few lava men inside. After I killed them it goes back to normal. Something else interesting could have happened, but I lost interest before it could.

I guess that makes sense. If you end up in a place that is too peaceful, it probably would become boring. I never seem to have a shortage of goblin attacks, myself.

There was a version where sieges didn't trigger properly. Perhaps you got that one?

At the end of a blog post about how vampires may eventually have to skip town because villagers get suspicious when people don't seem to grow older:

Quote
In bug news, the zombies in a necromancer's tower became suspicious after the necromancer failed to age and he fled into the hills.

 :whoops:

I haven't touched DF much since... well... since Minecraft. But all these recent developments are really interesting!

I got my dual monitors up and running and I started up some DF the other day. (Why I need two screens: Stonesense on the right screen, DF+Therapist on the other) I haven't played in a year, I'd say? It's as fun as I remember to build and dig and survive, but the biggest problem I'm having is the new military system is something I can't actually wrap my head around. The burrow system is cool, at least.

I've been trying to keep up on the newest updates, but it's just tragic because he refuses to fix the UI or make it the least bit more intuitive/user friendly.

New Dwarf Fortress is out. The primary additions are to adventure mode (quest monsters are really varied now), although dwarf forts benefit from getting better migrants and the occasional vampire.
