They've done a lot of things I like that I didn't expect such as
permanent xp share for whole party and differences in "tall grass".
But the skates are annoying and camera can get disorienting
My favourite thing is how little I know about the game thus the spoiler.

They patched it so it won't wreck your game when you save in the streets of Bullshit Camera City.

Now if they could just fix the Bullshit Camera.

I find it does work a LITTLE better if you ride around the streets on the bike.

I just keep a map open in a browser. If I didn't have access to a map, I'd probably just suck up the cab fare since you eventually make >10k per job minigame at the hotel.

When you change your hairstyle, they give you words, not previews, so here's a snapshot of some of the female hair styles lifted from another forum, behind a login wall.

Yup, you can buy hats, clothing, and such.

I'm about half through, game has been pretty solid so far, definitely a lot of quality of life improvements. I'm a little disappointed in the gyms: The first two did a good job of having a 'mon or two that could smack around the type's obvious counters. The fourth and ESPECIALLY the third, not so much. Went through the third without being hurt at all, without OHKOing anything. It'll be interesting to see how competitive shapes up, with Fairy checking Dragon but no-one really having solid defensive stats, Steel losing a couple NVEs, weather getting nerfed, and a couple of really interesting Mega Evolutions.

I bought it. There's so many quality of life changes it almost doesn't seem like a pokemon game anymore.

I also forgot to grab the Shiny Giratina when Gamestop had one, so if anyone has one they'd like to spare when they're transferable cross gen and tradeable, you'd be my friend forever.

This is probably the best pokemon series in generations.  Since GS I'd say? And since they've released very little information, it's got the magic and mystery of RB as well.

In BW, I complained about how hand-holdy it got. I sold off my copy of White 2 due to one segment where I wasn't allowed to play the game for over ten minutes, instead being pulled around a town in a long conversation chain. In XY, however, there's buttons I didn't know what they did until the eighth gym. There's things I'm still really fuzzy on. And it's fucking wonderful. I get to try things. I explore the whole map. Without having to deal with half-hour scrolling cutscenes, it frees me up and encourages me to talk to every NPC. And most NPCs reward you. At least one person in a house gives you an item and the rest give you information that's pretty useful. (Additionally, they added the great feature of having who lives in what city on the town map.)

The two flaws I was upset about (shitty camera and crappy skate controls) are gone now. The bike controls perfectly and the camera seems to follow it better in Lumiose than it did the skates. My only current complaint is the relatively small options for guys clothing late game. I want to wear a nice suit or a waiter outfit like I did in early games, dang it.

I'm addicted to Wonder Trading. Sure you often get shit but I found a nice patch of grass where I grind levels and evolve all the garbage pokes to send back into the Wonder Trade web. Yesterday I was sending out all six of the starters and Rotoms, day before was Haunters, Machamps, and Gravelers. Today I'm leveling up some pokes for myself as well as some fossil pokes.

The GTS is pretty great, as long as you just deposit a poke instead of searching for one. Let the computer handle that shit unless you want to see countless people trying to get lvl 99 legendaries for a lvl 1 Magikarp.

I did this, actually. Now I just need to figure out how to get Hidden Power: Ice or Fairy onto it. Or a good Gen6 set up for it.

It sounds broken from what I've been reading.  And there's no way to track your largest chain, and fishing chaining is weeeeeeeeeeeird.
