I still haven't finished Platinum. I guess I'll wait for the UK release of HG/SS, at which point everyone here will have finished playing Pokémon for the year again, and I'll have to finish collecting 493 Pokémon all by myself.

I still haven't bothered with my pokewalker :T

Also, I still haven't traded anything over because for me, that sort of defeats half the purpose of playing.  Why would I just send everything over to a fresh cart when I like the collecting part of the game, and you know, having to deal with not having the perfect pokemon immediately?

Because I've done the collecting thing in something like 7 story modes at this point, and for once, I just want to take one single team all the way to the top.  It's not like it'll turn off my Pokeballs to play this way.  :3

I'm trying to decide exactly what I want to raise but at this point it's looking like Froslass, Kabuto, Houndour, and Scizor, with Croagunk as a possibility too, depending on whether I want to have one or two HM slaves.

Transferred my HM slaves and a few ghosts over. My refrigerator really IS running now. :perfect:

For me, it devalues my older mons to let them rot in a box while I grind a fresh team of more or less the same mons in a new version. Speaking of which, it always bugged me that there was no way to transfer from 2nd gen to 3rd. Would have been nice to be able to hold onto your original starters/faves from the past decade all the way up to now. Christ, it's almost been 15 years, hasn't it?

So why not raise completely different mons for the story mode so it doesn't devalue your other mons?  I always like to mess around and make a completely different team when I play, otherwise it's very boring.

A guy on another forum I read found this thing online about putting the pokewalker on a fan so that when it jiggles you get watts, asked if it was considered cheating or what

And he did it while the debate raged on and he went to the store

And then he came home

Quote
So I returned, you guys are going to get a kick out of this. My pokeradar must have flew off my fan while I was gone, and well long story short, I need a new Pokeradar, I know I can bring him back on HG/SS, but my other problem is what it broke off into, my 42inch Plasma screen TV, ever seen the Wiimote videos? Yea, kinda like that, and just 10 days after my warrenty ended. FML

this is his tv

amazing

His conclusion was "It isn't cheating, but karma gets you for being a lazy fucker."

That's awesome.  I like the walker a lot because we are all using pedometers at work, and this one is a really good size and doesn't make a ton of noise as I'm moving around like the cheap ones we got for free.  It also accurately counts my steps and doesn't count up when I'm sitting still.

See, I am trading a few pokes over. Just my favorites. And I am making sure they are just the right level.
It's not so much that I want the same team, but more of the fact I didn't get them until late game in Platinum or something and I want to actually spend some time with them. And since I've already beat Silver a few times, there is no pressure to run through. I can take my time and just focus on having FUN instead of beating the game. I am taking my time, leveling everyone evenly, catching all of the pokes, talking to everyone, and just having a nice, relaxing time.
Sure I don't NEED a Rotom to do that or anything, but I like the little guy and since he was only level 1...  It's not like he's over powered or anything.

Yea, uhh, it's Pokemon, and since it's freaking Pokemon you should just play it however you want.

I previously gave some thought to how to translate Pokémon from Gen II to Gen III. The major problem is that there's no standard hardware to transfer data from a Gameboy Color game to a GBA, DS or any intermediary such as a PC or flash cart. You can do it on an emulator but there's no way to have it access a real Pokemon cart.

The second issue is that they changed the data format and game mechanics substantially between Gen II and Gen III, so you'd have to translate your data like you're updating a Dungeons & Dragons character between editions. To write a program to convert the data, you'd need to understand the Gen II data format, the Gen III data format, and the changes in the battle algorithm between Gen II and Gen III.

Addendum: I've heard that most Gold/Silver carts have lost the ability to hold a save, since the save memory is volatile and the real-time clock is hard on the internal battery. You can replace the battery, but that will wipe your save, if it hasn't been lost already. Unless your Pokemon are Gen I safe, you can only rescue them by trading out to another G/S/C cartridge with a good battery, or Stadium II for N64.

However, if you can find a GB flash cart (not GBA), that should let you trade from a Gen I / Gen II cart to something a PC can read. Then it's just a matter of disassembling the save game, working out how that translates to Gen IV, and recreating that using Pokesav.
