So I looked up these exclusive areas.

They are basically pallete swaps.

EDIT: REPLY 1000! :perfect:

No, like LeeHam said, it's two totally different looking areas.  In white it's a pretty forest area, and in black its super advanced civilization action city.  And I vastly prefer a forest.

Different-looking is what he said. Same layout, apparently, just one fills the spaces with trees and the other with buildings.

Guys, LD is the one that requires constant shinies. That minor aesthetic detail makes all the difference in the world.

Now, does the city give you more stores?
That's what I want to know.

Does the forest give you more grass to walk in?
If so that means more pokemon in that area. Even if they are terrible shit you already have, swarms'll be there, right? Chance for a new swarm?

Pokémon Sunday - Pokémon Black and White New Pokémon + Characters + Exclusive Areas + Global Link

Seriously. Look at that. It's about a minute in. They're practically identical.

...those battles STILL don't have backgrounds.

However, I am digging the Suikoden 1/2-esque camera panning during the battles.  Now if there were something interesting to look at, I'd be happy.  Even if it were generic backgrounds for CAVE/CITY/FOREST/PLAINS, I'd be cool with that.

Apparently these games are going to have video chat over local wifi. Great idea Japan, I can't see people 2 feet in front of me either.

I imagine that there will be silly things you can do to the video, like drawing on their faces or something.

I'm finally trying to go back and finish HeartGold.

The fight with Ho-oh blew me away. I definitely didn't expect a cutscene in Pokémon, especially followed by the best music in the game.
I named it Agni. I will name Lugia Varuna. Hopefully nobody will be offended, because that's basically the best nickname scheme I've ever had.

Right now I'm trying to catch the roaming legendaries.

ENTEI WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE ROAR

Put it to sleep or freeze it, then let it run. Encounter it again and use Mean Look. Alternatively, put Mean Look on a Soundproof mon. Or Hypnosis on something with Arena Trap. It's like a puzzle. An annoying puzzle.

My Hypno is pretty slow for taking on a legendary, though, and vastly underlevelled.

I guess I should get right on that.

Roar can be stopped by the abilities Soundproof and Suction Cups, or the move Ingrain. Of the Pokémon which can have one of these, only three can learn Block, without which the legendaries will flee: Abomasnow, Cradily, and Tangrowth.

Of those three, Abomasnow learns the sleep move GrassWhistle, Tangrowth learns Sleep Powder and Stun Spore, but Cradily can learn no sleep or paralysis moves. Abomasnow's ability Snow Warning ability summons hail which may kill the legendary before you're done throwing Pokéballs at it. None of the three are particularly fast, with 43 to 60 speed compared to Entei's 100 and Raikou's 115.

Alternatively, Umbreon and Absol can learn both Mean Look and Baton Pass. Use this to block the legendary from fleeing, then pass to something Roar-proof. Mr. Mime can have Soundproof and learn Hypnosis by breeding with Drowzee. The Bulbasaur, Oddish, Bellsprout, Exeggcute, Roselia and Carnivine lines can learn both Ingrain and Sleep Powder, in some cases by breeding, and all of those except Bulbasaur can also learn Stun Spore. Sunflora and Roselia can learn Ingrain and Stun Spore. Electrode can have Soundproof and Thunder Wave if you're willing to work at Battle Frontier for the TM.

Note that it requires some effort to give Umbreon and Absol both Mean Look and Baton Pass. You have to raise an Eevee to level 36 without evolving it to learn Baton Pass, then learn Mean Look as Umbreon at level 57. Absol learns both moves only by breeding from Umbreon. Absol's advantage is that he can be taught False Swipe and Thunder Wave by TM.

I bred and raised a Gallade with Mean Look, Hypnosis, and False Swipe for the purposes of hunting. He has proven to be a worthwhile investment.

You don't need block if you already have suction cups.  My octillery helps me chain shinies with roar all the time.  That's how I managed to get 3 houndour and my vulpix :3

In other shiny news, I caught a shiny shellos so now I have one of each kind of shellos :D

You are if you're hunting Entei, Suicune, or Raikou. They flee immediately from any encounter, and if they can't due to Mean Look, Spider Web, Arena Trap, or whatever, they use Roar. So you will need a way to keep them from escaping and a way to keep them from Roaring you away, thus Block/Suction Cups.

<Sleep> Yeesh. This Rattata I caught is yellow for some reason.
<Lucca> .
<Lucca> Shiny? o_o
<Lucca> Sleep are you serious
<Sleep> Oh. Yeah, probably. It does this whole sparkle thing whenever I send it into battle
<Lucca> What game are you playing
<Pid> Ahahaha
<Lucca> Are you serious or are you trolling me
<Sleep> SoulSilver :o
<Pid> TOP PERCENTILE
<Sleep> No, for srs
<Lucca> .
<Lucca> You got a shiny ratatta XD
<Lucca> Sleep:
<Lucca> If the xor of these two results is less than eight, then the Pokémon is Shiny. This results in a probability of 8 in 65536; simplified as 1/8192 (2-13, or approximately 0.012207%)
<Lucca> 1/8192 chance.
<Lucca> Congrats.
<Sleep> ... that's pretty rare XD
<Sleep> Is there any benefit to it being recolored and sparkly?
<Pid> Shiny pokes have shitty stats, I think?
<Pid> But yeah, it's unique
<Lucca> In Generation 4 (Diamond/Pearl/Plat/HG/SS), No. Shiny pokemon used to be innately 1.5x stronger than their non-shiny counterparts, but that was mostly because of the way Shiny was determined, was linked to the base stats
<Lucca> Generation 3 (GBA) and onward completely redid the data structure of the whole games (Mostly to take advantage that they had 20x the data space to work with) and made Shiny it's own thing, that doesn't affect stats.
<Sleep> So it's... bragging rights, basically
<Sleep> XD
<Lucca> Yep.
<Lucca> Pokemon e-Peen
<Sleep> Bragging rights Rattata.
<Lucca> You can truely say that yours.
* Lucca shades.
<Lucca> Is Top Fucking Percentage.
<Lucca> YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
