What's the best way to grind for the Elite Four in HeartGold? I want to raise everyone to level fifty before I challenge them again.
Victory Road is a given, but it's sort of tedious. I've started calling everyone to see if they want rematches, too.

...I suppose I could just keep challenging the Elite Four over and over again.

That's generally how you do it. Blow your money on items so you don't lose it when you white out, and keep challenging them until you win via superior levels (or more items). This, sadly, does not work in Nuzlocke games.

You are if you're hunting Entei, Suicune, or Raikou. They flee immediately from any encounter, and if they can't due to Mean Look, Spider Web, Arena Trap, or whatever, they use Roar. So you will need a way to keep them from escaping and a way to keep them from Roaring you away, thus Block/Suction Cups.

If you read what I said, it reads "You don't need block if you already have suction cups."  Which is exactly what you said only you made it sound like it wasn't also what I said.

Block stops roaming Pokémon from fleeing but not Roar, and Suction Cups stops Roar but not fleeing, right?

Correct, JD. Suction Cups sticks your Pokemon to the ground to prevent Roar/Whirlwind. It does not grapple the other Pokemon to prevent it from fleeing. As of D/P at least, maybe they changed it for Pt/HG/SS.

What I said is "You need Block and Suction Cups, or something similar, because they do two different things you need to address." Which is not what you said. I was correcting you.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat.  Oh yeah, roaming.  I wasn't thinking about the roaming part, just the roaring part.  Derp.

I clipped two Pokéwalkers to my wrist while playing bass for the entire career mode of Beatles Rock Band and Green Day Rock Band.

20,000 steps!

When I want a lot of steps, I just bring in my ringer, Finn.  That dog gets so many steps from playing fetch with me, it's amazing.

In other news, I wish I could find reliable people to trade with that had legit shinies, and it's just so fucking impossible online.  Why is it so impossible ;-;

I still, after playing the games for hundreds of hours, haven't seen a single shiny. :C

Other than the red Gyrados and downloadable shiny Pichu, I mean.

I've only seen one shiny in 300+ hours of play, and that was Bidoof.

Other people chain shinies, and I met some people at Magfest that do, but they are lame and I dislike them based on their "look at me, I'm so fucking cool" attitudes about chaining shinies and acting like only they are capable of doing it.  It's very irritating, so I have never traded with them.  Well, really I've never traded with them because they consistently don't chain anything that takes any amount of real time to get, such as pokemon you can only get with the radar or version exclusives from game pak insertion, or things that are fucking hard to get like beldum.  Fuck them.

My first shiny was in Sapphire in the first cave with the arons.  I killed it not realizing it was shiny since it was my first encounter with an entirely new pokemon, and for all I knew, it was totally that color.  That couldn't have been from more than 20 hours of play.  And then I caught two random encounter shinies within a week of each other just ev training.

But the point still remains, I don't know where to find other people who I can trust that have shinies and people on smogon aren't friendly, nor do I entirely trust them.

I don't chain, but in the hundreds (thousands?) of mons I've bred, several have hatched. Duskull was the first. I named him Glowst.

You and your inherently better shinies with movesets you want already able to be on them.

Yeah, but to a one their natures and IVs are lackluster.

I try not to care that much about the game or else I stop having fun.

I did enjoy breeding myself a Shedinja with the best moveset ever though. It did things no Shedinja should do.

So last night I clobbered the Elite Four and today I started my Kanto journey. There is a ridiculous amount of postgame content here. I'm impressed!

Also, I took on Sabrina using only an Ampharos. It felt good.

I take it you didn't play through the original Gold/Silver?
