I wish that I had room for Stoutland in my group. As it is, I'm switching a Ducklett in and out whenever I want to fly/surf.

Wako the Darmanitan
Anarkis the Cofagrigus
Amelia the Crustle
Angel the Scrafty
Grobot the Ferrothorn
Hugleaf the Servine

We just learned Surf and spent some time doing some exploring. Now it's on to a tower of some sort?

I'm so jelly of your crustle.  I couldn't find a single dwebble in the desert.  So disappointing.  I'm almost to the 8th gym, and I have no ice attacks.  FUCK YEAH!

Dwebbles can also be found on route 17. Actually, I can trade you one. I got 'em comin' out of my ears. Would you like it caught in a particular kind of ball? Have a nickname preference?

This (White) is my first pokémon game. I've never played anything like it before except for Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, which I loved until I hit a grindy wall of level disparity.

I just got to the third gym/city. Managed to capture Victini but he ate up like 20 fucking balls that piece of shit. Also I got an Audino who looks pretty but I haven't used it yet. All of my pokemon are like 10 levels behind my starter right now.

So this morning I picked up White, the strategy guide, and a refurbished DS lite just so I could play this.

Fuck you all.

Currently rockin' Snivy, Purrloin, Lillipup (this one's surprisingly useful), and Patrat (who sort of sucks).

Named myself White and my Snivy Smugleaf, 'cause that's how I roll.

I have heard tell that Lillipup is one of the most viable early-game common normal types. You get one early on and you'll be getting good use out of it, yea, even unto competitive play. I have not confirmed this.

Holy fuck, how did I beat Pokemon red so long ago?

I don't recall grinding nearly this much way back when.

This game requires a lot more grinding, especially at the start... when you mostly have Pokémon that you're probably going to swap for other, better, ones anyway. :P Grinding with Audinos helps so, so much.

I spent a while grinding before even approaching the second gym thinking I was so good at it and so ready. I was fighting a 17 with my 14 Electric Zebra. I beat it, then went out and ground out a few more levels and got a fighting pokemon to deal with the normal gym.

When I got to the gym leader?
"Fuck yeah, double kick the dog! What's next?" "OH DEAR LORD WHY IS THAT RAT THING 20." And then it killed my entire team.

I've heard XP gains are now proportional to the difference between your level and your opponent's. Grinding low-level Pokémon is less effective than it was. If you haven't caught your event Victini yet, try grinding on it for fast XP.

Lillipup is neat early on for free items with Pickup. Take Down is 90 power or effectively 135 with type bonus, which is unheard of at level 15.

I'm getting good use out of Oshawott's Razor Shell (75 power, effectively 112.5 power with type and 225 with super-effective).

XP does indeed scale according to the level difference. The lower your level, the more you get.

I've made it to Pokemon League, but one of my mons still needs to evolve. Unfortunately, almost nothing in Victory Road is convenient for it to kill. Fortunately, I got it in a trade, so even with the Exp. Share it won't be too painful. I also need to get around to importing that Raikou before I proceed. And I don't want to forget to delete the HM moves among my party in favor of slightly less useless TM moves. (I love reusable TMs!)

I caught Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion. I haven't tried tracking down Tornadus yet, though, because half the time it's on the inaccessible east half of the map.

About to trudge my way through victory road, but I keep leaving to go look for things I'd like to catch instead of grinding.

I was expecting a lot more grinding from the way people have been talking about the challenge level. I used a lot of Max Repels and did fine.

The postgame trainers, on the other hand, are pretty unruly.

Scraggy is awesome. I just got Hi Jump Kick, a 130 power Fighting type move or effectively 195 with type bonus. That's super-effective against Dark, Ice, Normal, Rock, and Steel for an effective power of 390.

Bug, Flying, Poison and Psychic resist Fighting, and Ghost is immune to Fighting, but Scraggy's other half is Dark type, which is super-effective against Ghost and Psychic. Scraggy has a type bonus on around half of all Unova Pokemon. Another way to look at it is that he's Fighting immune to Psychic.

Also, I like the way he pulls his trousers up. That's hilaridorable.

Are you sure that's a pokemon, and not a homeless man?

Obviously, undesirables like mimes and black trannies jynxes are fair game.

Hey LD, how are you spamming happiness in this game? I want to evolve my Swadloon ASAP.

The Soothe Bell and the masseuse in Castelia are apparently your only choices.

Don't let them faint ever if you can help it.  Give them something to hold, like soothe bell or berries.  Give them items whenever they're low and stuff like that.  And yeah, massages.  Just having them in the party raises happiness because tons of steps raise happiness, and they like to battle.  That's the way I roll, and my little Walnut is the cutest swoobat in the world and I ruv her.
