I can't hate Archie. Not that I buy it or anything, but for some strange reason I've seen them pop up in my parent's house twice (my dad said they were in between the pages of another magazine he bought, but I think he secretly likes it?).

They're so innocent and happy and the comic doesn't seem to try to be edgy even when they add a gay character or gay wedding. I mean, that gay guy is like the nicest, cleanest altar boyest guy ever. He probably saved his gayginity until marriage. Now Riverdale is a place I would like to live in. It's an utopia of bland niceness where teenages don't age.

Also: NSFWfuck yeah you knew this was cumming, lol Betty and veronica are hot

Also, Archie is not a Jock, it's just that in his world, girls are into nice guys.

"Mike" is a common name, of course, but it bears noting that it's his son's name.  The son who also draws (drew?) for Archie.

That would be a creepy birthday present.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

The scenario in my head is like, the son knows his dad does pin-ups, and his dad does Archie, so one day he kids around and he says "you should do a pin-up of Betty and Veronica" and everybody laughs. And then, a while later, the dad actually does it, and sends it to his son, and it's funny, in that "omg he remembered that quip and he went and did it lol" way.

Wikipedia says his sons' names were Jim and Dan Jr. No Mike.

Hm.  Could have sworn I read Mike DeCarlo was his son, and frankly it'd be surprising if two guys named DeCarlo working on the same comics were unrelated, but I can't find a source at the moment.  Question mark for now.

I like how Archie is still boyish and Betty and Veronica are effeminate.

Of course, that's possibly because if it wasn't that way, Archie would just look like Cheryl, Veronica would just look like Reggie, and Betty would look like... blond Reggie? (or maybe Moose)

MEANWHILE, the NYT has an article about the lawsuit.  Silberkleit couldn't comment due to the injunction and restraining order against her, so the account is largely told from Goldwater's side; that said, the article's as evenhanded as it can be under the circumstances.

The pros I've seen comment on this seem to believe Silberkleit's side of the story and think that this is a power grab.  That said, I can't resist this bit:

Quote
Mr. Gorelick, 70, said the staff “walked on eggshells” when Ms. Silberkleit was around, fearful of being insulted or castigated. She testified in January that she felt ostracized and disrespected by Mr. Goldwater and the staff; she denied the allegations of directing sexual slurs at employees, though Mr. Gorelick and Mr. Goldwater both described an episode in 2011 where she walked into a meeting, pointed in turn at each of the male editors present and said, “Penis, penis, penis.”

What Mr. Goldwater refers to as “the boiling point” was reached in May 2011 when a female employee threatened to file a harassment complaint against Ms. Silberkleit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Doesn't sound like "equal opportunity" was the problem.  HEYO!

This is because it's drawn by the artist from Menage a 3.
