There was a moment last night on point B in Gravel Pit.  All us lousy BLU were milling around, capping a point.  A lone red scout runs in from the C direction, firing and darting through all of us.  I whipped my mouse to the right, released, and prayed.  Seeing that scout dangle from the wall was the most satisfying fucking thing ever.

Yeah uh the Huntsman is basically the only thing I am looking forward to because the Ambassador is not what it's amazing write-up page promised (put two wheels on it and it's a cannon.. IT DOES LESS DAMAGE, SLOWER FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF) and now I guess Valve is suggesting I could have it by Thursday if I keep up my 3-6 hour a day streaks?

I bloody well hope so.

Oh and also, I took one look at "Top the scoreboard as Sniper 10 times on a team of six or more players" and laughed and laughed and laughed at the achievement I would never get.

I am now one away.

Huntsman is also great because with it you really don't need the SMG at all, since actually nailing someone with an arrow is so much easier if they are close to you or running towards you (pyros specifically), leaving you free to have back stab immunity or jars of pee with no worries.

And Razorback actually makes for a good combination with it, since you're usually staying one step behind your team and unable to be back stabbed, you usually get clear and easy shots into the spy who skips you and tries to go for the next target (of course this is also because of the influx of free weekend or achievement spies).

Also also, I was actually able to take out an engineer and a sentry which could easily be taken out by any demoman or heavy who knows what he's doing, but which my team was completely incapable of doing. Taking out engineers and their toys with arrows is so much more satisfying though.

Yeah I can't fucking wait for the damnded thing to drop.  Throwing piss grenades at people is awesome and stupidly effective but once it comes time to shoot a dude I have to fucking stand in the middle of a warzone and carefully aim.  Even if it were inaccurate if I had a weapon I could actually use I might actually, like, play Sniper.

The damage spread however can make even a fully charged body shot not quite take down a charging enemy (not a problem if they're covered in pee, probably), and the SMG actually becomes very worthwhile as a mop-up tool when you're using the Huntsman since they are usually left with just a sliver of health when they survive an arrow.

After playing with Jarate, I conclude it's meh. Situationally great, but usually not. This still makes it superior to the submachine gun, however.

The one effect that nobody makes mention of is the Boomer-like obscuration of view.  It's not as dramatic as in Left 4 Dead but it's a much worse handicap to have when you're not just dealing with a bunch of stupid zombies that are headed in an obvious direction.

<Dogstar> The Razorback'd be a lot better if you couldn't see the damn thing.

The Razorback being largely visible means I did not have to train myself to avoid it at all! Hoo-ray!

The generator wouldn't produce non-crit tags, actually. On the double sniper kill, I just walked backwards and put 3 clips into them as they completely tunnel-vision'd.

Tonight's Best Sniper Moment Ever: Offensive Sniper on Steel. Dogstar is a soldier. He keeps jumping up to the B-to-C cliff to wreck havoc. The first time, I dodge two rockets and knife him.

I forget how we crossed paths again, but I ended up knifing him again.

Then he tries the cliff-jump, I jump over the first rocket, sidestep the second, and whiff with my knife.. he takes a dive and runs for it.

"YOU KNOW HOW THIS ENDS, DOGSTAR! ! !"

Also uh I finally figured out how to get to the other team's side in Stage 2 Pipeline via the upstairs. I am sure Red Team came to appreciate this discovery as much as I did.

.... also that incredible sniping rampage from the raised platform in Pipeline Stage 1. Hahahaha.

So one thing I learned recently, and maybe you all already know, but.

A pyro can light an arrow on fire when you have one ready. Right click and the fire goes away, right? Switch weapons instead, and when you switch back, the fire is still there. Still has a chance to crit, still lights people on fire. So long as you always switch weapons away from the fire, you'll always have it. This is pretty useful for like, having a pyro light your arrow and going to hide for a while then getting a perfectly accurate super crit arrow.
