There is an "H.W. Wong Engineering Building" on our campus. Sadly, there is no banner above the entrance reading "You have come to the Wong place!"  ::(:

Check for a plaque inside.  It's an engineering campus, there's no fucking way they passed up a lame pun like that.

Are you assuming that was merely just some crass pun?   :THATWAY:

Heh. We had a loveable Mr. Wang who taught math at our high school too (GO CLICHE!). His accent was so thick, there was a "Wang-English" dictionary that was passed around for years. The funniest part was that it was actually tremendously useful.

We had a Chinese lecturer for computer science, which can be an inscrutable topic even with a native speaker. Her classes usually involved two hundred teenagers staring confusedly at a whiteboard while she described a topic in mediocre English annotated on a whiteboard with mathematical syntax I don't think she ever explained.

I repeated the year, so I had her for two years running. I moved to another university the following year, only to find that she had moved to the same university.

...is it possible for you to get one of these.

if I ever visited Japan I'd use a Japanese name, because there are like five things they can't pronounce right in "Brent".

I'd love to hear a native Japanese try to say "Alexander Barclay McDougall." oh shit, now Demogorgon's gonna post a picture of my house

Probably something like Arekusandaa Barukurey Makudūgaru (アレクサンダーバークレーマクドゥーガル)*.

But that's just my guess.  I only know the Alexander part from investigating it myself and asking one of the Japanese kids in one of my high school classes.  McDougall was easy enough to dig up, but I'm totally guessing about Barclay.

It's not really useful with another human being. Trust me on this. Mr. Wang talked special.

Hey, it was a Wang-English dictionary, not a Chinese-English one.

:ohshi~: The call is coming from inside the university!

Some people call me Raymond. Ramón is too hard for them even thought it seems to be the beaner name of choice nowadays (Cars, Happy Feet, Resident Evil 4). Back in the day Ramone was THE French gay name and everyone got it right.

You can probably blame Everybody Loves Raymond for making it an acceptable replacement for any /R.*m.*n.* /g.
