95 today; class smelled like a locker room.  Pleasantly breezy if you can find a shady spot, though.

Bloom's off the citrus but not the local flora; plenty of pollen in the air and also Brad's cats have started shedding like motherfuckers so I am very itchy.

It has been about 68 for the past two days.  And, yes, about a third of the ground around here is still covered in snow; even the stuff that's getting hit by the sun.  It's tenacious shit.

You know the snow hill I put a picture of earlier in the thread?

It's still there.

Smaller, sure. But only slightly.

Spent probably a solid eight hours today at my computer writing code (not that I'm complaining; I'm sort of trying to get a job where I do that 5 times a week).  By 12:40 I was wiped but also a little stir-crazy; I realized I hadn't left the house all day, and I don't like days like that.

Took a bike ride, my first late-night one since moving back to Tempe, and it was gorgeous.  It's about 70 out; just wonderful.

I've often wondered why most of Phoenix metro isn't nocturnal.  I mean, I understand there are jobs that require sunlight, but for the indoor professions where you've got the lights on anyway, I really don't get why we structure those around daylight.  I mean, yeah, switching our schedule around depending on the time of year would be disruptive, but the rest of the country changes its damn clocks twice a year.

Course, then I guess I wouldn't get nights like this.  But once I'm back to working 8-5, I won't be able to stay up this late then either.

Rode down to the old high school and back, since I'd mentioned it yesterday.  Confirmed my suspicion that the palm trees in Ryan Kelly's drawing do not actually exist (in fact the angle of the entrance is all wrong; it's actually at a 45-degree angle to the rest of the building), but I think the fact that I managed to look at that pic eleventy billion times without noticing anything was off means he did a pretty damn good job.

Anyway.  All this to say, it's gorgeous out tonight and I'm glad I got to get out in it for a little bit.  Think I'm going to leave my window open tonight, though that risks being awakened at an ungodly hour by the guys working across the street (I THINK they work on Saturdays).  Still, as long as it's still cooler outdoors than indoors at night, I may as well enjoy it; by July it's going to be 90 out at 2 AM.

The weather has been really nice here lately, usually hovering around 75-80. Today, however, it jumped up to 96 degrees. The forecast says it's going to stay there for the next three days or so and then go back down to 80 or so. I'm really not sure why the temperature here likes to jump roughly 20 degrees at a time for a few days.

36 degrees out right now.  It'll be 68 this afternoon, though.  Once it gets just a bit warmer on average, we're going to start seeing thunderstorms.

It's been raining non-stop for two weeks now, with the lone exception of last Saturday. Which was convenient, since I helped host a massive outside event that day for a 120+ people.

We've actually had a very pleasant, mild, long-lasting spring this year.  Which makes McCain's sudden passion for environmentalism a little ironic.

After weeks at 115, it's a relief to walk outside and smell rain in the air.

Now, it hasn't rained yet, and just because it smells like it will doesn't mean it will.  But here's hoping.

'06 was a fucking nightmare; we went 143 days without rain, which AFAIK is the all-time record.  Last year wasn't so bad on that metric, but it DID set a record for the number of days topping 110 degrees.

We're technically in monsoon season now, but that's because this year they changed the definition -- monsoon season is now a specific period in calendar days rather than being based on dew point as it was previously.  (This is because rainfall over a specific number of days is a more reliable measurement than over however many days fall within the given dew point.)

Anyhow.  If it started raining that'd be very, very welcome about now.

FIRST MONSOON OF THE SEASON!!!

:8D: :glee:  :wheeeee: :victory:  :perfect:

Sat on back porch just kind of grooving on it.

...Then I heard sirens.  A series of them.  For like 15 solid minutes.  There have to have been a half-dozen emergency vehicles that passed by here.

So that part's not so good.  Storms fuck shit up.

Assuming the two are related.

Well, there's also the fact that most people who try to set off explosives a day early tend not to know how to handle them.  Especially in a storm.

But I didn't hear any of those.

Then again, I don't know where the emergency vehicles were going.  I'm about a mile from the fire station, right by the corner of two major streets.

A week ago, sirens sounded off county wide at 11:30pm. Brought in the dog because the local news was talking about hail the size of loose change. Not so.

The next day, no sirens, and we get hit with hurricane winds and blinding heavy rain. Power goes out at 8:30pm, and doesn't come back on until 1pm the following day.

Yesterday, the day of Red, White, and Boom, the forecast called for thunderstorms to occur exactly at the time the show would begin. The showers instead came and went six hours beforehand.

I watched the show with two lovey dovey highschool lesbians.

I'll respect their privacy just enough to instead post this junky camera phone shot of a rampaging robot from last night:

Thankfully some guys in tinfoil capes swooped down and saved us all. Seriously.
