Up here we're expecting severe winds and rain in a few hours, lasting until tomorrow at least. We're way inland and we're probably not getting flooded, so I absolutely can't complain. The winds are getting funneled through the St-Lawrence valley though, which is a wide flat dip in the landscape (on a geographical scale) going almost completely straight for about one thousand kilometers, so it'll be a rare event to say the least and there'll still be some damage.

Ironically right now we're having the first genuinely gorgeous, sunny, warm day in a long time. But the wind's already beginning to pick up and you can definitely feel something heavy in the air. Even this little is already unsettling; I can scarcely imagine what it must be like to be in the brunt of it. I wish you safety at the very least, guys.

I hope you've built your canoe, so you can ride to hell like a francophone Slim Pickens.

Aaaaargh, I'm trapped in my cousin's house! It's raining like hell out there and there's not a single umbrella here!

Only another two hours until high tide.

The wind and rain has been nothing at all, but I may regret having called this storm a punk bitch.

Nothing came of that, in the end. The water level peaked there, right before we lost power.

Now we're literally the only home without power on our street. So if it's a problem LIPA has to deal with it'll probably be over a week before we get it back since we're a stand-alone. On the other hand, we have power right now thanks to about five-hundred feet of extension cords running from our neighbors'.

What will be the fallout of Brooklyn's transformer station exploding?

How's your new pool?

I keep hearing this in a Bob Barker voice, like he's announcing it as a prize on the Price is Right. Like:

Well BB, how's... YOUR NEW POOOL?!

Hopefully it won't end up like the summer of 2003.

None, because there wasn't one?  A circuit breaker in lower Manhattan failed in truly spectacular fashion, but luckily that's easier to deal with than replacing a giant custom-built transformer - and as it turned out later, it was relays getting submerged that caused the power outage in that immediate area rather than the breaker going up.

Still, most of the area without power isn't getting it back until the weekend at best.  Six million customers, give or take.  Hope the weather doesn't turn cold.

So, I live in the purple 12+ area! Yay! I hope it snows forever! We haven't had a good snowstorm in like three years.

We've had this weird damn cold spell for the past couple weeks -- I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are dealing with REAL cold weather, but a long run of freezing-and-below temperatures is pretty uncommon for Phoenix metro.  I've never had to leave my faucet on at night to keep the pipes from freezing before.

Finally seems to be turning around, though; today's high is 61 and tomorrow's is forecast at 71.  Debating whether to bike downtown for comics today or wait until tomorrow.

Man I wish, it's been springtime for a couple weeks here. It's honestly kind of horrifying.

Yeah, it was crazy town here last weekend. It was 15C above both days! It really was just like spingtime.

Well hey, it's -28 C out, -40 C with wind chill. (Which is, oddly enough, also exactly -40 F.) That's more like it! At last I can finally go outside and worry about icicles forming in my beard and breaking bits off.

...wait

70's for about a week, then up to 81 yesterday.

Today still quite nice but overcast enough to seriously fuck with my head.  Rained this morning but that was before I got up; by the time I biked downtown it was in the mid-60's and pretty dry; some puddles in the gutters.
