No buses, no power, no emergency lighting in the building (fun!), trees falling down as I durdled down the street due to the inch-thick cuirass of ice covering everything. Amusements abound!

Oh and I was up until 4 watching power vaults literally (for true values of 'literally') explode in or near adjacent buildings. THAT was interesting.

Yep, I heard on the radio that it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Yeah, probably be a day or two before power comes back. Luckily the balcony will work as a freezer for a few days and we can cook on the BBQ if need be. WE HAVE THE FACILITIES.

Assuming the barbecue isn't also frozen.

Luckily, I picked up a bunch of candles.

-75?!?!

That's getting close to the lowest temperatures ever recorded on earth. IN ANTARCTICA (-89C).

EDIT: Oh that's F and not C. Right durr hurr. Not that that isn't cold as fuck. That's close to -60C

EDIT2: Oh and they're including wind chill, which is sorta cheating. Booooo. Still pretty bad though.

The reason they're including windchill is because it's still going to be cold as balls without it. The windchill just tops it off as "Don't fucking go outside ever." A few retail store chains are even closing their stores for the day on Monday.

It's so cold outside my toilet seat feels warm. Let that sink in.

One thing is that really, once it goes lower than -25 or -30, you stop feeling the difference that much.

Because, you know, you're going to freeze to death very quickly if you stay out in that shit.

This story is probably not real.  But I can wish it was.

I skipped work this morning due to waiting at bus stop in actual -15 F, windchill -30 F with like 20 mph winds.

Saturday, it is supposed to be 40 F and raining.

A few people died yesterday in town. One guy was walking from the bus stop home and was found frozen one the ground.

I was a delivery driver yesterday. My car got stuck in a pile of snow due to a guy parking in the middle of a one way street and just leaving his car. So I walked the rest of the way to the delivery. Not far, a few blocks. But the snow was up to my knees and by the time I got to the house, I could no longer feel pain. I warmed up in their house for a minute (they were a very nice, half naked family) and by the time I got back my car, I was just thinking over and over "Yup. This is how I die. In a shitty t-shirt advertising a company I hate."

Actually the "So this is how I die" thought happened a lot in the last few days. Driving with morons has made life fun.

Wait, so the guy walking home... did he fall and black out? Was it an older guy?

I mean, cold is cold, but even that seems a little extreme. Even in totally crazy freezing temps it takes some time for a whole human body to completely freeze.

My mother told me they brought him to the hospital she works at and the doctor said he was frozen and had been for hours.

I don't know more than that. But most of the people who died yesterday were pretty old.
