And I've actually seen a couple small agricultural sites around. There's even an orange grove within a stone's throw of my place.

Do not be afraid. These are harmless rogue operations that will soon be stamped out by the enforcement squads and replaced by gas stations and organic coffee shops.

So, Fredward, feeling the love yet?

I went for a walk in a t-shirt this evening. It was wonderful: dry, breezy, just on the edge of cool and cold. I even ran across a family of skunks, and we were all, "hello human", "hello stinkbeasts, no offense", "none taken". That is real mellow weather. It's the temperature of nonchalant peace.

Man, I love my homeland.

The weather has been egregiously nice the past few days. I am not complaining (other than wishing I was outside more... stupid office job).

Where I come from, winter is two weeks in early January where it stops raining and it is a little cold (maybe). Snow lasts for 1-3 days, and happens three times a year at most.

It's like paradise. Rainy, rainy paradise.

Dude it is illegal to complain about October snow in Québec, especially when it's the weak-ass fluffy stuff that doesn't stick around. I could have you arrested right now.

Besides it's still pleasantly cool outside. I changed my flat tire in a jean and t-shirt yesterday.

So Vancouver Island got a blizzard today

for all those who believe this may be commonplace, understand that the words vancouver island and blizzard together invoke the disaster act

This is pretty much a true depection of a police car stopping another car just tonight - or a dramatization - no hyperbole.

Another fucking snowstorm.

Shit, al gore was right about manbearpig!

On another note, what do you call a blizzard night on Vancouver Island when all your supervisors live on the northern side of the Malahat?

Friday night!
 :perfect:

(Malahat -  a mountain pass at the start of the Trans Canada highway where there is no viable alternative way to connect south and central/north Vancouver island with exception of one sketchy logging road)

Freezing rain tonight for the kansas city area.  Wonderful sheets of glasslike ice covering every god damned object.  On the upside if the sun peeks out, we get a wonderful photo op.  But I have to drive on that crap.

Actually that's a lie, I get to telecommute on bad weather days.

We had a bit of a rainstorm this weekend in Southern California. It didn't compared much to a blizzard or any other storm of actual merit, but 46° is pretty cold for around here. It got cold enough that I could actually see my breath in the air, which would've been neat if I weren't inside my home.

Time to move to a place with actual insulation, I'd say.

I was on #finalfight last night to bemoan my lack of manly mechanical know-how, the shortcoming having been brought to light by my ignorance of pilot lights. Without the furnace and without any insulation to speak of but the drywall and stucco (it's California, after all) the interior temperature of my house dropped to 45 degrees by nighttime. I tried  everything to warm the place up--I lit the stove burners, ran hot water in the shower, and turned on all the lights that I haven't yet switched to compact fluorescent bulbs--but I was barely able to crack 55 degrees the hot water ran out and started to get concerned over gas fumes. Not even an electric blanket managed to thaw my feet.

And so I headed outside to the little locker in which my furnace is mounted (according to the people in #FF, it's weird that the furnace is outdoors, but what do I know) to try my luck. I know the basic procedure: open the gas flow, hold down the button for the gas and then light the pilot--easy! Only thing I don't know is where the pilot is or what it looks like. Clever fellow that I am, my method was to hold down the button for the gas for a long time and then wave the barbecue lighter around, hoping it would catch. As you might have already guessed, there was a small fireball that took all the little hairs on the back on my right hand. BUT I HAVE HEAT
