I'm going to pile some bricks in my trunk and hope I can get to work tomorrow. I mean, it hasn't snowed YET...... but I'm not taking chances.

In my never ending quest to turn this thread into "Friday's Christmas Plans" thread, I, uh.

The trip to Disneyland was canceled. Not because of weather. Apparently, it was canceled because god hates me and enjoys dangling hope and joy in front of me and then snatching it away.

This seems the place to bitch about how weather has fucked me over, so it's time for CAIT'S STORY (Not to be confused with Katestory).

The scene: Western Washington, currently under the effect of what can only be called a freak snowstorm. I'm sure a foot of snow doesn't sound like much to some of you easterners, but even an inch is enough to bring Seattle and its many hills to a crawl.

The plan: Head home for Christmas, stopping in Seattle along the way to take my grad school test because they don't offer it anywhere closer. All is going as planned, until last week. Snow begins to fall, but everyone knows snow doesn't actually stick to the ground long enough to accumulate. But by some strange winter miracle, the snow was around to stay. And it keeps coming. Back home, in the rural location only known as The Island, the snow was too deep for people to get on or off The Island, so going home was out of the question. Still, I had tickets to Seattle, so I could at least take the exam... until they closed the testing site on Friday and Saturday due to the weather, with the worst storm to hit on Sunday. Clearly, there's no way they'd be open on Monday, right? I'd have to reschedule, but I could work with that.

Cue Monday morning! Despite the predicted new accumulation of snow and ice, the testing center opened anyway. Things that WERE cancelled: Greyhound, Amtrak, Airporter, and intercounty transit! But because the testing center had its doors open, despite the majority of prospective test-takers unable to reach it, I was found entirely at fault for not taking my test, and thus ineligible for a refund of my $250.

And that's my winter weather tale.

<--- dranken, sytill

I take it they don't use snow chains in Skullfuckeria.

Snow Chains aren't to be used at speeds above 25mph for any safe length. Brick it, yo.

The trip to Disneyland was canceled.

Friday's brother wisely decided to take me (and a few dozen others) instead. BFF!

Do you know of any others that were unable to attend, or have a means of contacting those that were supposed to? This could work to your advantage in finding leverage against these robbers - disguised - by - master - degrees.

Our block here in Anaheim can now join the country in having shit fucked up by the weather. I was going about my business when I heard a huge crack and everything went out. Power gone for an hour and a half. No big deal, but that was the scariest sound I've heard since lightning struck a palm tree just a couple hundred yards away.

Rained pretty heavily here for most of the day.  My brother called from Hawaii and found that amusing because it ISN'T raining there for a change.

Up north where my mom lives, there have been hurricane-force winds and she told me her power was out tonight.  No snow, just drizzling rain.

I'm up at my parents' place right now, and the snow in people's yards here is waist deep. If I were staying any longer than the weekend...

If you ask me, the thing's backfired.

Instead of driving today, I biked home through a wall of falling water.

...Since I'm the guy who tells everyone to shut the fuck up about how hot they think they are in the summer, I feel the need to note the upside of living where I do:

It has been fucking GORGEOUS these past several weeks.  Lows in the low 40's, highs in the low 70's.

I've been going to lunch at a park that's a 10-minute walk from my work.  The other day I was reading Lewis Black's book, and I got to a chapter where he lists reasons he believes in God on one page and reasons which he doesn't on the other.  (The latter mostly just names off STD's.)  The "reasons to believe" list includes "70 degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze", and I could definitely relate when I read that.
