This post will be updated regularly.

Link to the original thread.

Link to the original thread (story posts only.)

So instead of the clumsy way I'm doing it now, shoving a huge wall of text under every tenth post or whatever, I'm just going to put that information here, so players can access it whenever they want.

No promises on keeping it 100% up to date, I might forget/lazy.

Also, I guess I might answer Out of Character or other questions/comments here.

Synopsis

After waking up after what seemed to be a nuclear explosion in the distance to the south of you, you are promptly informed of "they" by two people whose heads promptly explode. Waking up again later, you search for the little girl who was with them. She tells you her name is Nicole, and then goes mute for a bit. Something doesn't seem quite right with her.

You find a man in a car who looked like he killed himself. Nearby was a strange note talking about how "they" get in your head. In begins to dawn on you that your missing eye might be more of a bad sign than you previously thought. Taking the man's car, you encounter your first Faceless on the road: An infested humanoid. You manage to escape, after discovering that their "weak point" seems to be the chest, rather than the head.

You visit the crater in the center of your hometown. Inside is a bunch of worms with a bunch of Faceless bringing them meat. Seeing nothing of any value here and no way to stop this, you leave and head for the vet north of town.

Along the way, you stop at a gas station to get supplies, where you meet Benny. You decide to leave together, and Benny attempts to steal your car at gunpoint. You disarm him and kick him to the curb. Nicole continues to act strangely. You reach the vet.

After a bit of a scuffle, you introduce yourself to David and Jacob. David is a nervous blonde, distraught over the recent death of his wife. Jacob is an older guy, and a doctor. David seems insistent that Nicole is an infected. When you attempt to ask him why, he gets angry and there's a bit of gunplay. He winds up shooting Nicole on accident.

Though you don't want to leave Nicole alone, you decide that the best course of action is to go back to the gas station where you left Benny and pick up the generator you saw there earlier, so you can get X-rayed at the Vets and learn if you're infected or not.

On the way there, you see a disturbing poem on a billboard, and on the back, a message straight from your subconscious: "hows your mother?" with a smiley face. Deciding to ignore this strange find, you continue to the gas station.

Once there, you discover Benny has changed into a faceless. However, he seems contained for the moment, so you investigate a nearby parked semi, and, after a bit of logical deduction, open the combination lock and get the shotgun. :D Just in time, too, because Benny-Less has managed to open that door and has snuck up on you. You blow him away with your new toy. (oh, if only he had stayed dead.)

Searching the rest of the store, you get the generator and also find Benny's final thoughts written in a notebook, despite not being a member of S.T.A.R.S. It lends further evidence to the fact that you're not far from becoming a faceless yourself.

On the way back, the billboard has a new message written under the mom thing: "How's the little girl?" and also "Billboard Man" is standing on the ledge, pointing at you. A No-Faced man with a strange business suit, G-Man's first sighting is sadly not the last.  You get out and try to talk to him, which does not go so well, since it causes you to have really bad pain and voices in your head.

The two of you share a sort of strange dialog, before you black out and awaken later to find Faceless closing in and No-Face nowhere to be found. You quickly escape in your car and head back to the vet.

Around this time, "sssssssssssssssss" options begin to appear, randomly but worse when your infection spikes.

Making it back to the vet, you get X-rayed to find that yes, you are infected. You go to see Nicole, only to have the infection spike up and No-Face to reappear. He causes a nearby dead bird to turn into a "crawler" and you flee to find David and Jacob. You note that Nicole can see No-Face.

Heading back into the room, you are ambushed by the crawler which has attached itself to the ceiling. David shoots it, probably saving your life.

You explain your situation to Jacob, and then decide to try getting really drunk, based off clues from earlier. It turns out that the worms don't like alcohol.

That night you have an odd dream, where Benny (having both eyes) tells you to choose:

Death, The Worms, Or Him. Not liking any of these choices, you look behind you to see Nicole. Despite Benny's warnings that "she is worse than choosing death" you embrace her, and she sticks a worm into your ear from her mouth, and tells you she has a "present" for you.

You wake up to find you have regrown your missing eye, somehow. Benny shows up, now missing his eye, and claims to "not be the same Benny" from your dream. You're not sure if he's a figment of your imagination, a hallucination, or what, but he sure is gross and annoying.

You find David and he apologizes to you for losing it and shooting Nicole, and also takes you into his confidence, confessing his belief that there is more than one "breed" of these worms and that since you're infected with type 1, you can't be this other type, and are therefore the only one he can trust. You agree to keep quiet, for now, until you can talk more later.

You discuss your condition with Jacob again, and you agree that you should X-ray everyone. However, someone has sabotages the generator out back. Whether it was the Faceless who showed up (and you killed)or one of the people with you in unknown.

You decide to head farther north, to the next town, in search of a hospital. Along the way, Nicole plays a guessing game, spying something "brown" and you discover that it is your new eye, which is odd, because you have hazel eyes. The brown is the same brown as Benny's eyes.

You decide to stop at a house with smoke coming from the chimney, but your adventures with George and Annabelle, the couple who live there, are cut short when Nicole freaks them out by spouting stuff about their kids. You take your leave.

However, you decide to change course, based on George information that the north town was overrun with Faceless. Instead, to head into the hills. Once there, you look back into the valley to see helicopters firing on targets below.

Heading deeper into the hills, you find a man laying in the center of the road. Stopping to investigate, the man stands and begs for you to kill him. You give the command and David headshots him.

Jacob doesn't like this one bit, since you had the cure for his infection sitting in your trunk. He storms off. You follow him to a house, only to find him broken down, crying. Just then, your very own Cavine breaks into the house, and you are forced to fight a running battle back to the car.

Just as you're about to make your escape, Jacob runs off firing his pistol, and gets ambushed around a corner. You charge after to save him, but are also eaten alive.

Here's a really short synopsis of what's happened thus far in our Journey of THE ENDS:

We wake up in a small gated community, and Jacob and Nicole are nowhere to be found, after drifting in and out of consciousness with them around initially.  We are injured, but are concerned when they don't come back.  We venture out and things seem okay til OH MY GOD FACELESS THAT WANT TO KILL US OH GOD GET IN THE CAR.

So we get in the car, drive away, barely escaping with our lives, and then we're on the road for a while.  Then we can't really go across the bridge towards where we originally came from since it's destroyed.  So we have to turn back and then we end up on a dirt road where life seems untouched and normal.  We drive along and find a suspiciously quaint cabin.  We get out and then we get attacked by some chick who totally knocked us out and caged us, only she left us locked in a cage with beer so what is up with that?

She ends up letting us out, and we decide to try to build an alliance with this girl, who is named Jesse.  Her family was killed and her father was infected--she too is infected, though she has obviously been keeping it somewhat under control with booze.

After some drawn out discussion, she decides to join us and we loot the local market and head onto the road towards Limestone.  On the way there, we see a ton of dead buffalo out on a buffalo ranch.  Deciding to investigate, we find that the bodies of the deceased buffaloes are infested with dirty, writhing, slimy wormies.  They infect the body, the bones, the muscles, everything and the buffalo rises from the dead like a disgusting worm filled apple.  We have been trying to ignore Benny for a while to appear normal, and at this time, we find that he has taken control of our body so we can't move.

Jesse screams as the buffalo monster comes to kill us, and we snap out of it and escape with her back to the car just in time to escape the horrible buffaloes.

We pull over to let Jesse pee, and gasp, there's Benny again, being a fuckstick.  We decide to talk to him, and he tells us that making the decision to let him save us while we were out of it has given him some control over our body.  And this is where we're at, yo.

Benny decides to give you a gift, but you tell him to go fuck himself before even knowing what the gift was. After delivering some cryptic warnings about Limestone, Benny finally vanishes. You decide to fill up your gas tank with the extra fuel you have and Jesse takes the opportunity to ask you about your odd behavior as of late.

You decide to tell her everything. Jesse listens without comment. After you finish she angrily berates you for almost dying earlier to the Gorgon. She then admits to seeing her dead family from time to time, but is unsure if it's the infection or guilt, or both. She asks you to promise her not to leave her, because she doesn't want to be alone anymore.

You promise, hoping you'll be able to keep your word. Deciding to let Jesse continue driving, the two of you continue toward Limestone in search of Nicole and David.

Along the road you are ambushed by crawlers, who force you into a strange fog bank. You shortly thereafter enter the city and are greeted by several strange messages written in what seems to be blood on the billboards, as well as several other disturbing, unexplainable sights. At the highway junction near the center of town, you think you see Nicole, who turns into No-Face. Crazy shit begins to happen in earnest, including giant teeth rising all around you, and crawlers falling like rain from the sky.

Shortly thereafter, you black out.

When you come to, Jesse is trying to wake you up. You hear a lot of voices and finally are able to snap out of whatever state you were in. The car has blown a tire, and faceless are closing in.

You decide to leave the supplies and car for now, taking only your weapons, and heading down the street. Passing by a side road, you notice a Pawn shop, but investigation proves fruitless as it's locked and barred up tight. With more Faceless closing in from each side, you duck down an alley, to find an odd dumpster.

Keeping as far away from it as possible, you are suddenly overcome with pain, and your perception switches with what is presumably inside the dumpster, though you are unsure. After sending it back to sleep, it nonetheless sends a "gift" out of the dumpster after you, as your senses swap back into your own body. Fleeing from this "gift", you take refuge behind a side door, firing a flare into it's eye as it tears a hole out of the door. Afterward you brace the door shut and head up some old stairs into a dark, narrow and old hallway. Reaching an intersection, you see some writing about No-Face, and also an eye drawn wreathed in flame.

Deciding to continue down past the hallway with the blue writing, you see more strange blue writing on the walls, directing you to "Max" in room 31. Eventually you make your way there and find the room locked, the key hung from the ceiling outside. A note invites you to enter. You do so and find an infected man who has killed himself with a shotgun, a note he wrote details somewhat what happened in Limestone and implores you to take care of his Border Collie, Max.

You take the shotgun, Max, and leave, heading down the fire escape you passed earlier. Heading back to main street, you head north, gunning down a Faceless. You begin to hear Cavines howling in the distance, and decide to take shelter in a liquor store.

Looking for the key to the freezer area proves fruitless, but you instruct Max to sniff for them while you barricade the windows. Soon the Faceless and Cavines show up, and you manage to defend your position, using plenty of shells. However, the Cavines seem to be adjusting their tactics, and are now patiently waiting outside of prime shotgun range.

You start to help Max search for the keys to the back area. Shortly thereafter, a huge swarm of rats flood into the store, and all turn into Crawlers. You barely find the keys in time and leave through the rear loading dock. You are injured in the escape by a Crawler who lashes you around your shoulder and thigh.

You find a dead body in the truck blocking the alleyway leading to the loading dock. Although at first you are not aware of what killed him, you shortly find a large metal canister, seemingly a gas grenade of some sort. You guess that the military attempted to gas the town as a (last?) resort, killing off the remaining human population but leaving the infected, who were (probably) immune.

Removing the body, you get into the truck and resume your trek north to Jesse's dad's friend's house. Along the way, Benny shows up again, and interestingly enough, it seems Max is able to perceive him somehow. A Walgreens is nearby.

Facts About The Infection

- Initial possible source: A nest at the center of a large crater created by a large explosion (nuclear? alien?)
- Consists of vermiform bodies ("worms") that infect living creatures through bodily orifices or cuts
- Often nest in the torso/spinal cord
- May form a secondary nerve system that can control the host body to a degree
- Can create prehensile "vines" that shoot out of the infected body - what these vines are made of is unknown
- Infection does not require a intact brain or living individual: worms can move even half-eaten corpses
- Neural connection with brain causes hallucinations and lapses of judgment/split personality: Subject is driven to ignore fellow humans and concentrate on personal survival
- Worm infection does not seem to be particularly deleterious to physical health long-term, and in fact may provide regeneration capabilities
- Infection retracts with alcohol, but continues to progress: effects of other depressants and drugs are unknown
- Can form large creatures of some kind that take a long time to develop and need to be concealed within buildings/nests (why?)
- Worms can communicate with and command others at a distance: hierarchy unknown
- Fully reasoning infected rumored as a recent development, perhaps product of the same process we're going through
- Is there a cure? Well, that's the question, isn't it

No-face's RED writing is now in contrast to a mysterious other BLUE writing the main character has begun to encounter.

And Nicole isn't near him anymore!  It's almost like this is some picture of PAST events!

i'm with ld

where's the hot pic of jesse and me, shotgun in hand, shirt torn in strategically chosen places revealing toned pectorals the size of dinner-plates, a grit of disgust on my face as i slam my foot onto a faceless' head and blow his chest open, jesse's hand held fiercely in my offhand, her tight jeans smeared with blood from our constant near-death struggle...

this is like a picture from the prologue or the introduction, and it's not how i think of the main character anymore

It's a really cool picture. I love the artist's depiction of emotion and movement. Very professional.

Well maybe Lee-Ham doesn't read the ends except a synopsis and so he didn't know about two eyes when he drew it.  Maybe.

What does it matter?  At some point in time he was missing an eye, so why can't Lee-Ham draw a picture of that?  Again, Nicole is there so it's not like there's any attempt at this being a picture of "now".  So instead you accuse the artist of ignoring the source material?  Nice way to make Lee-Ham feel appreciated for his awesome art.
