It seems like the final battle in Lagann-Hen is a divisive one, but after thinking about it today I'm really fond of it.
After escalating right up to the point of the Spiral Nemesis, all the fight designers could do was bring it back down again and make it an intensely personal ruckus -- but not so personal that it was just boring ol' talking or psychological trickery.

This sequence did break the flow of the scene's analog in the series, which was its own type of joy (Robot to robot to robot to Simon to victory.) The gritty brawl was a nice compliment to the 34 minutes of 'splosions and embiggening that preceded it, however.
I forgot to post this a long time ago. The final show down and it's resolution is basically the best part of Champloo as a series.

Old Man Knocks Out Four Robbers

Skip to like 1:15 or whatever. The best is at 2:10 or so when the old guy just stands here and basks.

I guess you had to be there, since on camera it looks like they're all just standing there calmly going "Hey man, why are you punching people?"

Man, that show ruled. Spider-Man + Batman. Two great tastes that taste great together. With a side of cyberpunk.

My favorite part is that it came from the worst kind of committee based corporate nonsense. Hey, lets do a Batman show that's more kid friendly (as if kids don't love Batman), and make it more relatable by having this new Batman be a teen! Then Bruce Timm and Paul Dini got put on the project, and the future was saved.

DCAU Fact of the Day: Mr. Freeze was redesigned for B:TAS by their good friend, Mike Mignola.

...of course.

That didn't click until now, but the connection must have been bouncing around my mind already, because of course that's totally a Mignola design.

Look at him -- he's Lobster Johnson.

He also did a bunch of concept art for Batman Beyond. You know those suits that are the current business formal on the show? Those were his.

Transporter 1 - Revenge (Jason Statham)

EDIT: Oh, I guess Kabbage posted this already, but hey, hi-def. Now I need to find another awesome fight to post to make amends.

As promised. From Sword of the Stranger. It's a bit recent, so this is the opening scene as you can tell from the credits, but I strongly recommend the rest of the movie.
