...yeah, okay, it's my fault this turned into Best Cartoon Fights Ever.  I shall now enact honorable penance.

:endit:

On the contrary, I'm actually kind of glad more people are getting over that weird thing where it's not ok to admit you really like (or even just used to like) old cartoons if they're Japanese.

meanwhile talking about Thundercats and Batman is totally ok and hipster-ironic or something

Erm, I think the taboo is admitting you like new cartoons if they're Japanese.  Wanking your pud over Fist of the North Star Hokuto no Ken and Gundam is cruise control for cool these days.

Justice League Unlimited is still pretty much the best cartoon. Ever.

I meant more "I really really liked Evangelion and Trigun in High School, NOBODY MUST KNOW, EVER"

One of my favorites has always been
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0dFl1paxDA
for being one of the first DCAU fights to really give Superman some actual heft to his powers.  Because I'm pretty sure that multiple large neighborhoods should have been accidentally leveled over the course of just about every S:TaS ep.

I do love Bloodsport, but only because of it's 80s styled hokeiness. That fight is terrible, but it is VERY Van Damn so I love it.

There's no weird thing, I posted cartoons too, I love cartoons. It's just that people seriously posted a bunch of bad fights from japanese cartoons. I really wanted this thread to be about your absolute favourite fights of all time, not just any fight that happened in some Japanese anime you recently watched.

If you don't want to be subjected to people's wildly differing tastes and opinions, don't ask for them.

Hey, I really have no problem with anyone's posts in here other than I_M's where he was breaking the rules.

I was just expressing that I don't think there was any taboo on weeabooism.

That'd be a bit clearer if you hadn't mentioned anime specifically when I_M didn't post any, but what the cockfighting hell ever.  Back to business, uh...

Well give me a second to dig something up here.

Close-quarter gunfights obviously don't do it for me often, since you're either going to end up doing something seriously silly or you're going to portray it semi-realistically, ie one or both guys shoot and the other guy dies.  It's pretty obvious what end of the spectrum this one falls off of but I'm just so happy they actually tried.

...I'm pretty sure that Pompeii wasn't playing in the original scene, by the way.

One of the few JLA comics I ever owned had a bit where the Flash punched a guy into orbit in pretty much the same way.

And people always wonder why I always pick super-speed on "if you could have any super power" questions.

Wait what?

What's the matter with the Wild Bunch shootouts? I didn't see a sign posted that said MANO A MANO DUELS ONLY over the door when I walked in here. You specifically stated that 'one vs. many' was not really on, but it was okay. Well, so I posted one that was 4 vs 200+. It's a fight. I like it.

Also: Flash's pants are made of goes fast.

Back when I lived in my flat and we were paying £144/year for a TV license just to use it for the Gamecube, I decided to get my money's worth and watch terrestrial TV. I settled on a film called Gorgeous, a Chinese dubbed movie which I was soon disappointed to find was a romantic comedy and not a martial arts film. The main character is a boring Chinese recycling mogul, and I spent a while trying to work out if this was Jackie Chan doing a serious role, or if I'm just doing the "all Asians are Jackie Chan" racist thing in my head.

Then a fight scene breaks out.

Matt, I think I was pretty clear.

Quote
One stipulation I still wanna keep though is that it has to be one on one or at least one vs many situations. That basically means no big battle scenes, save that for an other thread. However if it is a specific one on one fight that happens in the middle of a battle, then fine. But it better have some length to it.

There's the sign, it's over the door.

Different interpretations of the same text, I guess. I thought that things that were close would be okay, but I guess not. You seemed kind of casual about the whole thing so I thought it was kind of absurd to quibble about 4 vs 200 over 1 vs 200 when your original post was pretty laid back, talking about how you expanded the definitions, etc.

Anyway, rather than further bitching, I do have some others that 'fit' better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4XMgQUqLZ0&feature=related

This is one I'm surprised no one posted yet. I chose this one over the Cloud City one because what really really makes the last one for me is the way the Emperor just goads them on (it's a shame the clip doesn't have the full taunting, but that does go on for a while, and I'm sure most of us have seen the movie). He's just such a great villain.

I know it's cool to slag on Lucas, but once upon a time he and a bunch of other folks made some really amazing movies. And the light saber duels of Episode 5 and 6 were a watershed moment in both cimema and nerd history. I'M GEEKIN' OUT HERE MAN.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APTdjG6Xo9A

The greatest intro of any movie in hostory, hands down.

I do so love Blaxploitation, and this is my all-time favourite. BBJ's continued absence from DVD (I have a VHS copy burned to DVD) is a crime.

And yes, kids, the whole movie is pretty much like this. Watch some of the other fights ('midnight dojo fight', 'sydney in the pool hall', 'train fight', 'end boss fight in the car wash' and others on YouTube if interested).

I'll think about it and maybe post some other fights when I go home.

Should Video Game Fights count?

I think so.
