Got bored. Got hungry.

1 can of spaghettios
Some oregano
Some peppers (no idea what kind. Used them a while back and put leftovers in tupperware)
cheddar cheese, extra extra sharp
Parmesan

mixed together after forgetting about cooking it.
Prayed that I wouldn't die.

Not dead! Much better than the spaghettios plain.

Because Doom is apparently some kind of cooking idiot savant*, I will say that I am glad your efforts were not futile. I am happy you did not waste spices and time somehow worsening your food product.

Incidentally, my first step to any food failure is either adding black pepper in excess of a tablespoon or any amount of allspice.

Why are you defending people who come into this thread to announce that they managed to microwave something, add it to something else, and force the contents down their throat? Did you have a super important ramen noodle water boiling you were trying out and wanted the thread to be free of the elitism it deserves?

Thanks for making Classic look sympathetic, Doom.

Thanks.

Well, actually, adding an egg or a few veggies to ramen happens to do wonders to making it palatable on a daily basis. I just don't see the profit in denying lottel his victory, even if the bar for victory wasn't particularly high.

Anyway, I got shipped part of a side of beef by my parents and I'm out of the easy rub-n-broil cuts. Anyone want to challenge me with a soup or a roast recipe they don't feel like trying themselves? It's round roast, and I've got a zillion dry beans that I should get going through.

Yeah see that's interesting. I'm just tired of all the "I heated up pre-cooked meat product and put it on bread I toasted myself."

If I see a good soup recipe I'll give you a jangle.

Trying to empty the fridge before I leave, I stir fried bell pepper, yellow onion, carrots and marinated mushrooms.  Added chicken and my secret stir fry sauce and put over rice.  It is delicious!

Where should I be looking to buy some big, flat cast-iron skillets?  Bed Bath and Beyond seems quite unhelpful, and I'd rather go to a store than order online.

Well, if you want a GOOD one, I'd Google some cookware stores in your area.

I hate to tell you, because you might be looking for some skillet nirvana, but any cast iron skillet is pretty much a good enough cast iron skillet. You don't have to go all in for price to get a good one. Pick it up, make sure that bitch isn't too heavy, and baby it like a classic car. It will treat you right if you return the favor. Note, LEARN TO TAKE CARE OF IT. Teflon has made people weak in the ways of caring for cook wear.

Yes but what places are likely to have them in the first place?  BB&B tops out at this dinky little 10 inch things, barely big enough for one steak.

Google 'cookware in (insert closest bigger city near you here)'. The internet isn't hard!

My apartment has an electric range, so I am a big fan of the stainless steel pans with nice thick bottoms.  When I was growing up, all we had were those cheapo non-stick pans that were so thin that they would warp over time, so that only a tiny portion of the pan would actually touch the heating element.

Or you could go to your local thrift stores. You might get lucky and find one pre-seasoned.
