Well, more accurately it tastes like water.

This is not always a bad thing.

Iceberg lettuce is higher in moisture content and generally speaking much crisper than any other lettuce I've tried. I prefer it on a sandwich.

every condition you could try to satisfy with iceberg is fulfilled at least infinity as well by some other lettuce.  woops.

Lettuce or whatever. Bean sprouts on a sandwich offer the same crunch, better flavor, and holy crap some actual nutrients.

Except if you don't like bean sprouts.

The fact that iceberg lettuce does not have a flavor is the entire fucking appeal, dude. All you're getting is the pleasant cool, crispness of lettuce. I agree that iceberg has no place in, say, a salad, but on most sandwiches iceberg is king.

Sometimes texture is just as important as flavor. Considering that iceberg lettuce is part of a larger picture when implemented in a sandwich, maybe the point is to make the other flavors in the sandwich better by adding a pleasant texture? I don't know, maybe I'm crazy.

I pity your sandwich that derives all its flavor from the bean sprouts, and have trouble comprehending your burger that does the same.

Niku is proven to have no taste.
He ranks lettuce incredibly low, but above cupcakes.

He is fucking crazy.

The problem with the cupcake is not its flavor, its smell, its texture.  The problem with the cupcake is its existence.  It is a clumsy, misshapen thing, like Old Yeller had he been allowed to live for several more years.  The modern cupcake is a monstrosity with a frosting profile larger than any amount of cake to be found within.  It is simple fact that a small slice of regular cake, ensconced within a similar wax paper, would be infinitely preferable in every way, to say nothing of the superiority of cake balls.

When I was at Ft. Irwin, some of the Iraqi roleplayers made a beet salad that was amazing.

I forgot to get the recipe.  ::(:

Ah but Niku. The cupcakes of which you speak are cupcakes of a harlot. They will do in a pinch but they lack the soul of a TRUE cupcake.
You eat one of these beauties and you know what life is about.
I am not arguing that a good cupcake is like a tiny cake. I believe that was the basic idea.  But the shape of cupcakes should not be belittled. It offers maximum cake-to-bite! You get a little frosting on there and you have a delicious little bit of heaven.

One might even dare to say that they are cup-sized cakes.
