I caught some Cloak and Dagger spectating action and I must say that I am intrigued! I had not realized how intense and active the default watch was until tonight, when my most successful antics were those in which I could execute anyone who saw me with the revolver... the Cloak and Dagger's pace is downright serene in comparison!

TESTING MUST BEGIN.

Use dead ringer, get hit, your entire cloak bar drains whether you uncloak early or not, then begins refilling.

So you can't Dead Ringer, "Die", Uncloak, Recharge in a second, Dead Ringer, "Die", etc anymore in rapid succession.  Which was mostly broken due to how awesome it was for pushing carts when using a friendly disguise.  It probably should have been fixed by a re-arming time rather than a full cloak drain though because now the Dead Ringer is basically worthless compared to the other two cloaks.

Frankly, I don't know why they feel the Dead Ringer needs both negatives like that. It just makes it shitty in my mind. By the two negatives I mean the fact that:

A) You can't activate it unless you have a full cloak bar.

B) It makes a really loud noise when you uncloak with it.

I agree it needs one of those minuses to make it balanced with the regular watch, but what the fuck. With both and now this new nerf it just sucks. Who would want to use it now over the Cloak and Dagger or the regular watch?

Really, I think all it needs is a cool down like you say so that you can't spam it in a broken manner. The noise and needing full cloak bar is bullshit especially since the game currently gives you no indication of your cloak meter when you aren't holding the watch out and you CAN'T HOLD IT OUT UNTIL YOUR CLOAK IS FULL. So you just have to sit there, guessing whether or not you have full cloak again before you can reuse it. It's bullshit. The concept behind the watch is really cool, but what a fucking retarded implemented watch replacement. Like, godamn this patch has problems.

The cloak bar is always there, yes. Which reminds me how people were saying you couldn't tell when jarate was usable again, even though it also has a bar right there on the hud.

In regards to the noise, you can actually tell when you get a fake kill on a spy using the dead ringer, since they also make a different sound when they die, so if you're paying any attention you can tell that the spy you killed isn't actually dead.

I haven't used the thing since the nerf but it used to be basically only good for two things:

1) Fucking with people while on defense.
2) Getting close enough to a sentry to help the rest of the team take it down (lol like anybody does that).

Adding a massive recharge penalty makes it sound like it's not very good for fucking with people anymore, so I guess it's the Spy's Bonk!.  Just a super-fucking situational item that you need to give up something good for.

Which is not to say either one is useless (I actually use Bonk! way more than I should) but you have to kind of master them.

C&D really isn't close to superior, I'm finding out.  The recharge time on it is on the greater side of forever, whereas with the Metalcharger you can pretty much cross any map safely during C&D's recharge time if you have good situational awareness and know where the damned metal is.  It's a matter of how much you hate trudging to the frontlines as Heavy only to be killed by some random-ass Sniper, because C&D is exactly like that.

I'm thinking you could sit still and invisible in a good spot and watch the enemy team and broadcast their movements over voice chat, if you had any inkling that people would use your information effectively.

This in combination with the occasionall sap/stabs-of-opportunity could work out really well on some maps. Your teamwork would have to be phenomenal though... like this is something that you could expect from a 'pro' team.

Looks like the Ambassador is finally really fixed: I felt danger being hit by the thing last night. I think I took a full health head-shot once.. went from 125 to 25.

Yeah, I think that happened earlier. I killed Kazz with it yesterday in a HILARIOUS comedy of errors.

Here are some stats.

The revolver does about 40 damage per hit, base. Point blank can go up to 50 or 60, long range that can go down to 20. Crits do 120. It is slightly inaccurate. It fires almost every .6 seconds.

The Ambassador does about 34 damage per hit, base. Point blank is about 45 or 55, long range that drops to about 15. Crits do 102. It fires almost every .7 seconds.

The reason the Ambassador is better is that the first shot is perfectly accurate, always. Like a rocket. Then when the accuracy goes to hell for about a second, it is as accurate as the revolver. So if you're playing right, you've got a gun that can do a guaranteed 100, and then you've got a gun that fires a tenth of a second slower but is otherwise almost identical. The damage is a bit less, but really not a whole lot that it even matters.

Is there anyone who doesn't think this is a blatant upgrade?

That's like saying the Sniper Rifle is blatantly better than the Huntsman, or vice versa, because the raw stats suggest one is better in a headshot situation: any gun that rewards "not missing" is better overall if you don't miss.

I found that my usual repertoire of "get discovered at not melee range with pyro, back-pedal while shooting to death" benefited immensely from the occasional sought-after or even random head-shot. But I wouldn't use the Ambadassador if that was all I was hoping for: the Revolver's 4-5 routine was doing the same thing without any effort.

Nah, what makes it shine is that waiting 1-2 seconds between shots and getting that head-shot very often is a clear upgrade, and in any situation! I love just shooting dudes to death where a backstab offers the opportunity to whiff. But I'm a dedicated psychotic and absolutely unflinching in the face of any disaster. The average player...
