A few questions: which spy watches make noises? And when?

We all know the Dead Ringer makes the most obvious ZOTs this side of a malfunctioning engineering device.. but what of Ammo Watch and Cloak and Dagger? As far as I can tell, the Cloak and Dagger is almost perfectly soundless.

Ammo Watch.. I dunno. Sometimes you guys catch me and sometimes you don't. My absolute favorite tactic is to "shadow someone".. that is, to let them pass, strafe into the space directly behind them, decloak and stab. This even lets me "catch up" to Pyros and Medics. But do they ever hear? CAN they? This is what I am curious about...

C&D is the same as the regular watch. They've always made noise; most people never notice it though. It IS quiet.

Yeah, I've been surprised that decloaking makes any kind of noise at all.  I just started noticing after the dead ringer forced me to notice.

The old watch always had a noticable noise, but it's easily drowned out by gun fire or explosions. The Dead Ringer always rings true though.

Aww, I though I had managed to get the last achievement I needed to pick up the Ambassador the moment I logged in.  Apparently it just triggers it the first time you kill someone if you already have enough achievements.

The Cloak and Dagger earned me my very first 8-backstab life and a couple of brilliant (if I do say so myself) defenses on Steel.

I WOULD prefer the revolver for its reliability*, but I like the Ambassador better for the fact that it makes for a great razorbacked sniper killer. Two headshots is all you need on a guy who is usually standing almost completely still.

I wouldn't call it a straight-up upgrade, but it does definately nueter an other class' unlockable so I find that sorta gay about it. But, whatever, the pee jar is better anyway just for the comedy if nothing else, but also for its cloak breaking ability. After all, it is the only thing that can reveal a cloaked Dead Ringer Spy, other than fire of couse.

*If it doesn't shoot you can always just hit him with it.

I'm going to agree with Yyler, in that Ambassador is pretty much just a straight upgrade for me.

There have been a few times I've peppered someone with shots and not gotten a headshot and when they kill me and it zooms in they are at a tiny sliver of health and I think "oh damn, that means I would have won had I been using the regular revolver" but they are far more rare then all the times I headshot people.

Also it lets you "backstab" razorback snipers, so.

Not sure what I think about the Cloak and Dagger. I keep switching back and forth between it and the regular watch. It seems slightly stronger on defense. But when you need to be mobile on offense, regular watch seems like the way to go.

I can't stand being caught 2-3 seconds away from a clean escape/attack next to a +100 Ammo Box and having to snail-crawl or wait 10 seconds.

Yeah.

The trouble is, I constantly notice myself missing the other watch's aspect whenever I'm not using it. Using the Cloak and Dagger? Wow, this is annoying and slow and if I had the regular equipped I could just go grab that box and keep moving. Using the Regular? Wow, I wish I could just stop moving here while cloaked so I could get behind this big push.

i keep pulling off bizarre escapes with the C&D, just because people expect you to keep moving once you cloak.

I just wish it charged a little bit faster.

Camping the cart and getting chainstabs is fucking hilarious.

Using the Dead Ringer?  Wow, I wish Valve hadn't stuck an incredibly long recharge time ON TOP OF having to get hurt to activate cloak ON TOP OF having a loud and obvious uncloak ON TOP OF having way too short of a cloak period to begin with.

I understand they don't want the thing to become du rigeur but Jesus Christ, you basically are resigning yourself to exactly 1 backstab/sap with the thing.  Make it count.

I got the C&D the other day and still haven't equipped it because I'm afraid of having this feeling permanently.  Next time I play defense Spy I'll try it anyway.

Using the Dead Ringer?

Don't have it yet. Even before the nerf it didn't appeal to me, though. And now from hearing you guys talk it seems pretty useless in comparison, so.

I'm sure I'll give it a shot once I get one more spy achievement. I just have to headshot one more scout.
