I played Puggsy on the Amiga. You could lift and drop items, throw items, and climb up on top of items. Most solved puzzles or were for climbing on / throwing as weapons.

A few items could be "used", like a three-shot pistol and a pair of sunglasses that for the longest time we thought was a hot dog. You got huge points bonuses for carrying them out unused, though, so as much as possible we'd end every level pushing a precariously balanced three item high stack of guns, pearls and hot dogs.

RoP is buggy as shit and took me three years to beat. And I still like it. I ripped the .gyms years ago; some of the music is beyond horrible, but some of it still sticks around in my mind to this day.

I remember liking Sylvester and Tweety in Cagey Capers a lot but I haven't played or thought of it in over a decade and I can't guarantee the freshness of this opinion.

General Chaos.  Looking back on it, it's like an uber primitive TF2.

Which somehow reminds me: Mutant League.  Either one.

I was going to mention General Chaos, but I honestly didn't remember if it was any good.

Brentai tried to convince me that there are no obscure good SNES games last night.  I claimed that Robotrek was pretty obscure, since nobody but me ever talks about it.  He thought it was fairly popular in this community, but I assured him he must have brain damage.  Doing a search for "Robotrek" on these boards brings up exactly three posts: all mine.  I never see the game mentioned on any other gaming site or forum, except I recall Parish briefly mentioning it in the context that he didn't like it compared to Quintet's other games.

The phenomenon of mostly Genesis games being forgotten is explained by the system being less popular here than in other countries.  If you or your friends were less likely to have a Genesis, chances are you will miss several worthwhile games, even though they are being developed at a similar rate as the SNES.  Also, Genesis games tend to age poorly, so they are less likely to be dug up and remembered through emulation.

I keep reading this thread title as "Good Obscure Generalizations."

Like, "the Irish all have silky toes," or something.

I think every game on the Genesis is obscure except for Sonic and the Phantasy Star series. That's how much Nintendo rocked Sega's world.

I don't know if Wonder Boy in Monster World is obscure, but I found it fun. Then again, it's almost unbeatable since the last few screens decide to make up for the lack of difficulty in the rest of the game and the last boss is impossible, even though I remember beating it with an emulator.

Also, the first thing you read in the game is how Monster World was a peaceful land until it was invaded by monsters... I WONDER BOY WHY?????

Was B.O.B. good? Or did I have no taste as a kid? I also remember an Arabian Nights-themed action-RPG called Exile. And a game about some fantasy girl and her four types of pet baby dragon. And a game about a robot that shot rocks out of his head.

Isn't that the one where you have to beat the bosses at Paper-Rock-Scissors and the entire game is about as challenging as CandyLand except for the obviously cheating final guy?

Was B.O.B. good?

Mediocre platform shooter if I remember.

:barf:

Was a port from PC Engine anyway, I think.

Alisia Dragoon, probably.  Never played it.

Hurrrgh, I know which one you're talking about but I don't remember the name.  Probably because I'm getting it crossed with Chuck Rock (about a caveman who Chucks Rocks) and Decapitation (about a robot mummy that shoots his head).

Of all these, Sub-Terrania is probably the most obscure, despite being well-polished and original.  This is probably because it was also difficult to grasp the nuances of and fucking hard.

Basically, it's Lunar Lander with shit trying to kill you.  A lot.  People with no dignity may recognize it as the inspiration for one of the games on Neopets, although that was like 5 years ago and I have no idea what the hell they have now.
