[21:35:38] <Defenestration> This game
[21:36:22] <Defenestration> Makes me feel like I have an absolutely ENORMOUS penis now that I have the swinging mastered
[21:39:14] <Defenestration> I just spidermaned underneath two "helicopters" stealthily, grabbed the underside of one and reeled in for a kick, and destroyed it with a followup grenade as I rebound off of it. I catch a light post, 180 back as a missle blows by me, empty a shotgun shell into the vulnerable underside as I seem to sail by it, but then boot that one
[21:39:56] <Defenestration> For the finale, I nade 4 infantry in the same shot in the building I'm about to land on and get an achievement for it as I hit ground.
[21:40:01] <Defenestration> Fucking. Epic.
The mixed reviews on the game had me worried, but it delivers.

The swinging has just enough of a skill curve to make it rewarding while still being moderately challenging even when you get everything down. Decent TPS gunplay, actual difficulty, and the ability to punt people accross the map make this well worthwhile in my humble opinion!

I'm playing through on Hard currently. The Grunts are pretty much not an issue at all by themselves or even in a group, so the first 20 minutes or so of the game was a breeze. Big difference once they started introducing Snipers. From that point on, I've had to go in with a plan or just get systematically taken apart.

It's not inherently tactical, but the spread out spawn points and the AI of certain things will force me to be more careful than if I was playing a pure TPS like say Gears of War.

Also, I love how huge just some of the stages are both in width, depth, AND height. You can really use the layout of the land to your advantage. Apparently there's a way to get the grenades to act as Proximity mines according to the in game profile on them, but I haven't figured it out. When I do, that will be absolutely enormous fun forcing the aforementioned "Helicopters" to chase me by a prepared outcropping just a little tooooooo close...

Took me a while to figure out how to fight a shield biomech without him gunning me down near instantly.  You really gotta count your bullets as you go, they seem to give you just enough to do the job.  The sniper rifle finally let me breathe easy in the last part of the industrial level.

I will never play this game with the default player model.  First thing I did was unlock the original Rad Spencer using the code from Rearmed.  Red hair and 80s style sunglasses make everything better.  Sadly his lines are not as awesome as they were in Rearmed, which typically consisted of pointing at the boss, making a silly insult, then violence.

Also, while I like Steven Blum as a voice actor, why is he in every game this year?  At this rate we'll have enough material for Steven Blum characters vs. Capcom.

I would pick my tag team of Spike and the Scout Marine from Dawn of War 2.

I would pay a LOT of money for that.

My one complaint surfaces. A lack of boss fights. I just completed the first one, almost 75% into the game. :;_;:

The first one is the Osprey-alike vehicle.  Second is the mecha-worm thing.  I'm currently stuck on Groeder, 'cause he's kinda cheesy.

I do agree, though.  Needs more bosses.

Oh my god..  That sniper nest at the park before BEAM CANNON ROBOT drove me insane before I found the holes in their lines of sight.  Jesus fuck hard mode is hard.

This game is also noteable for actually surprising me at the ending. I haven't had something like that happen since the last bit of MGS2!

I'm pretty well trained on the tropes, both firsthand and otherwise, but well, I didn't see *that* coming.
It's ambigous at best, but a downer all around. But just enough was left unsaid to probably make me lose a bit of sleep until someone beats Commando and uploads the video to youtube.
polycraft know just how much reach your arm has and they do their best to stay the hell out of it.  I've got fighting biomechs down though.  The airforce ones have highly amusing pathing bugs.

Just finished it on Normal after playing most of last night.  Did all of the challenges save for Shellshock and getting all the little do-dads through the levels.  Didn't bother using the Retro Outfit since I got used to the new look after a few minutes.  If anything, Spencer just needs to shave.

Do want sequel, Capcom/GRIN.  Do want.

The more I think about it, the more I disagree with pretty much any negative comment in the reviews, save the ones based on the supporting characters.

Spencer certainly doesn't sound "immature" or "off base for a hardened, framed war vet" to me. And I don't get the complaining about the whooping, either. If I had a arm that allowed me to swing down a block akin to a rollercoaster, I probably would get some enjoyment out of it no matter why I was there.

The whoops and chuckling while sniping enemy soldiers is a bit morbid, however.

He was put in prison essentially for being a war hero, so he's going to have a few mental issues, okay?
