"Present-day" continuity would be all kinds of retarded if Superman's teenage years were like Smallville.  The only way he'd even be able to have a secret identity at all would be for Lex to topple a vending machine over onto himself or something.

I watched the first few seasons of the show, and during that time Lex lost his memory at least twice.

Did his father's long-lost evil twin show up in that season?

I don't understand how Lex Luthor hasn't already found out Superman's identity five million times from the basic setup of that show alone.

He has.  There was the time he got knocked out and got amnesia, the time he went in for electroshock therapy and lost his memory of the last six months of his life, the time Clark went back in time and changed the past, the time he was SURE something was up with Clark but Clark was depowered so he bled when he punched him, the time he found out and then got written out of the show with no explanation...

If Clark was more Genre Savvy, he'd use it as a weapon.

Please don't link TV Tropes unless you want to pay me for the hours of otherwise productive time I will invariably lose.  Thank you.

Chloe's the genre-savvy one.  She keeps making movie references!  Hahaha!  I was just saying "They stole that from Pulp Fiction," and then she totally used "Pulp Fiction" as a verb!

Ohhh, I love it when things reference other things.

Speaking of referencing things: Family Guy.

You know, in that show, I don't have a problem with Brian the dog having sex with human women. And gay jokes about baby Stewie are fine with me as well. But a not unrecent episode hinted to Stewie having a crush on Brian, and that was just... weird.

Family Guy seems like it's desperately trying to get back to the level of humor found in the pilot episode.  You know, the one that turned everyone off of the series and caused it to be canceled the first time.

But with one funny pop-culture reference per episode!

You know, Family Guy is pretty much directly responsible for Robot Chicken, which distilled its formula down to the purest form.  No plot, no characterization, just straight up references to things you remember from your childhood, only violent.

Right.  Robot Chicken is Family Guy without the pretense of plot or any attempt to make you give a shit about the characters.

Curiously, Robot Chicken is better.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Well, yes.  Putting scenes in-between the jokes only works if you have interesting characters or compelling plots.

Compelling plots?

Well... uh, Lois has raped Peter at least twice.

...so there's a new show on between Earl and Office.  It has a good cast but I only made it through the first 10 minutes before I decided it was turning me gay.
