But as the case goes on, he becomes more and more confident and, as you said, goes right up to the murder suspect and tells them to their face that he's on to their scheme.

Too bold.

..That sounds like a lot of traps.

  I'm there!

Yeah but sometimes he knows about the murderer's traps and sets a trap to trap them while knowingly walking into their traps.

..That sounds like a lot of traps.
You're baiting some pretty tasteless cracks about :gay4:.

Wasn't that actually a subplot?  The "Mikey's spiritual journey to not be such a gullible loser" subplot?

Well, there was at least the one where he won the Battle Nexus rematch, fair and square, after a pep talk from Emo Leo.

(Tangentially: a couple weeks back, Murphy posted mockup art for a possible TMNT movie which would put Mikey in the spotlight.  He stressed that it's just a mockup and such a movie is unlikely ever to get made, but I thought it was pretty cool.)

Name one character you wouldn't want to see Hugh Laurie play, Kazz.

One.

After imagining Hugh Laurie as Harley Quinn, Garfield, Jar Jar Binks, and Gandhi, I have concluded that it is impossible.

House essentially is Garfield, after all. Just, for lasagna, read Vicodin.

...So I turned on SNL tonight because I wanted to see the opening sketch with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.  It was pretty good!

Then I foolishly watched 20 more minutes of the show.  That was a mistake.

The biggest problem with the Smallville season premier isn't that it was bad (although it was!), it's that it seemed to be resolving a completely different season finale cliffhanger than the one that actually aired.

Last season ended with Lex finding out Clark's secret and gaining power over a MacGuffin to control him.  Then Rosenbaum AND both head writers quit the show, so the new writers had to come up with a completely different resolution than whatever they had planned -- and came up with the highly original idea of having "control" actually mean "depower".  What, an episode of Smallville where Clark gets depowered?  Holy shit, what a twist!

Also, he is held prisoner in eastern Europe.  So at this point they're pretty much just cribbing plots directly from Heroes.

Also also, no mention whatsoever of Kara, not even during Clark's near-death experience where he had a flashback to all his family members who have quit the show.  So I think we can chalk her up as one more major character who's just going to be completely ignored for the remainder of the series.

Which, fortunately, is only eight months away!

After reading your post, Thad, I'm supremely happy that I stopped watching Smallville after season 4.

Yeah everything I heard about Smallville was that starting with season 5 it was actually quite good, you just have to sit through four seasons of ass to have some clue what's going on.

Kinda, yeah.  3, 4, and 7 have their moments, but there's a lot of crap to sit through along the way.

I am watching the new Clone Wars cartoon animated thing right now.

...well, actually, I'm across the room posting about it.

Take that as you well.

UPDATE: Upon actually watching it, I discovered to my lack of surprise that it is fucking crap.

UPDATE THE SECOND: Apparently it's so bad that the cable company cut off service as an act of mercy.  :o

I don't understand how Lex Luthor hasn't already found out Superman's identity five million times from the basic setup of that show alone.

"Present-day" continuity would be all kinds of retarded if Superman's teenage years were like Smallville.  The only way he'd even be able to have a secret identity at all would be for Lex to topple a vending machine over onto himself or something.
