My favorite thing about the graven images law is that God completely owns up to committing the sin of Envy when he lays that one down (and it is, in fact, the very first one). Then he immediately follows up with "oh, and I will fuck over the next four generations of anybody who tries to call me out on it."
God's a pretty neat guy sometimes, if you can respect a humongous omnipotent prick.
What a refreshing thought that is in no way a stale, old canard.

If God exists, and is the source of morality, it follows that we cannot be more moral than He. He is the Creator and Judge. We are the created. If our worship and love belongs rightly to God, and He decrees that it does, it is not just when it goes towards the creation.
I mean, listen to yourself. Sin? What? Who is God sinning against, exactly? Previous flippancy aside, please enlighten me.
First off the ten commandments shouldn't really be that important to anyone.
Yes, because they were written, like, a really, really long time ago, and the ancients wur dum.
...I know what you're getting at with the rest of your post, Kashan, but please don't discount the Law and the prophets. I just couldn't resist, friend.
