Being unable to really read this thread I don't know if it's been mentioned, but.

Finished last episode of Fist of the North Star (2) today.

And then I went and found the point where the manga continues from, so I'll be reading that for a while.

Cheers.

I... uh. I decided to catch up on Air Gear. I'm on chapter 228.

Barack Obama switches bodies with a 14-year-old Japanese girl.

That's what happens in chapter 228.

what

I went and found it, and frankly, I wasn't impressed. They took a great premise and totally failed to do anything interesting with it.

Also he (she?) didn't much talk or behave like Obama. And I don't recall any traumatic childhood stories from Obama about explosions and soccer or whatever that was.

UPDATE: Finished it.  It spends a lot of time trying to undo the ending of the anime, and then goes and redoes the ending of the anime.  So it's not really required reading, unless you want to see Bart get his guts pulled out with a drill.

The GL manga manages to correct horrendous mistakes (e.g. Episode 4) and spend a little more time on backstory. I don't know if I appreciate or am annoyed that I keep hearing "Bro! Bro! Fight the powah!" in my head when I read and admire the big panels, but I do.

Although I've heartily recommended Gurren Lagann: High School Edition, it would probably damage the experience to switch between the two. High School GL's jokes assume that you've at least seen the anime to episode 15.

Hey, Negima's all right sometimes.  I'm not thrilled when it spends multiple chapters on ~kissing junior high school girls~ but when does the shonen thing it does it right.

True Story: Akamatsu wanted to do a shonen series after Love Hina but his editors demanded the BIGGEST HAREM EVER
because love hina was a harem, and thus adding more T&A means more money right

And then when no one was looking, BAM, power levels.

Got a copy of Swallowing The Earth, by our old friend Osamu Tezuka. Fun and interesting read, not just because it's the first 'Adult' manga produced by the fellow (making it something of an artifact).

Negima

It's also an exception to the shonen rule of "women are useless". If not for mucking about in the harem aspect and adhering a bit too closely to the Love Hina formula to produce sekzy komedy (and too few big themes) it might qualify for consideration amongst seinen.

And as much as I like One Piece I don't think I'll be keen on going through its backlog again for a few months.

I do not know how long Sumomomo Momomo is going to last, but if the rest are as good but after the first book and hearing how she beat up 39 bears when she was 9. I definitely think this is going to turn out better as it goes along.

Look uh um I know this is pretty much the gayest thing ever but I'm starting to get into Lovely Complex and every issue I pick up is pretty much fantastic.

I mean it's not at a Midori no Hibi level or anything and I feel like it's going to get predictable dang fast, but man, I dunno, this is actually a really enjoyable read so far.
