FUCK YES

Dunno if I'm sold on CG Samus, though. She looks kind of like every other featureless final fantasy girl ever.

I'm so happy to see a return of proper ice-beam that actually fucking freezes things.

Anyone taking bets yet on if the black guy dies (before every other important character is optional)?

Well, light brunet Samus was around before a lot of those characters, and Samus hasn't changed much besides hair and clothes.  So they copied her.

They made her features somewhat more Asian, which of course means that European people are going to have a harder time finding the distinctiveness in them.

Even though this seems to be YET ANOTHER PREQUEL (how many goddamn missions did Samus have between Metroid 1 and 2?), I still :jizz: at the trailer.  It looks more 3rd person than 2.5D, which would make sense considering the developer.  I hope they are good at making it a Metroid, but I wouldn't be entirely unhappy with Ninja Gaiden with beams.

I think most people are placing it some time around Fusion due to the zero suit?

It actually looks like the time frame jumps around a fair bit. There's a scene with Malkovich, but the bit with Mother Brain looks like the finale of Super Metroid, and the glimpse of the zero suit could actually be set during Zero Mission. I almost get the feeling that the majority of the CG scenes shown are flashbacks, and only the last bit with the mysterious women in the lab is the actual new story. So it could be either between Super and Fusion, or post-Fusion. Or maybe the whole game is like "secret" missions stretching across Samus's entire career.

Either way it's neat to be excited about a Metroid game again. I have to admit the close-quarters fighting looks really awesome, and I'm thrilled to see the Speed Booster come back. Though I'm concerned that Team Ninja's pedigree might make it a bit too slanted toward the action side while neglecting the exploration aspect.

EDIT: Uh... that's my professional medical opinion as the station's doctor :P

I'm kinda hoping that the new Metroid is a pseudo remake of SuperMetroid.  As I don't like the idea of Samus killing Motherbrain again between the original and Super.

Also, that would mean, epic Kraid battle!

And a new, fun to kill fucking spore boss.

You may have to settle for a fangame. Although the quality does look pretty high.

Um, yeah guys.  Anyway, you know how Metroid is a huge ripoff of the Aliens saga?  And how the last movie in that series was about the army cloning a new half-Alien Ripley and Ripley having all these weird maternal instinct conflicts with her clone child?

Just saying.

Remember how that was the fourth Metroid game, Brentai.  More important is to remember how after that, the Aliens series moves to just simplistic shoot-em up, b-movie schlock affairs put out by hacks?

Is that how you feel about the Prime trilogy?

It's how I feel about it, at least. To some extent, anyway.

I'm wondering exactly how much of Nintendo is being factored into the "Team Ninja × Nintendo" equation. Do they even still have an internal Metroid team now that R&D1 has been dissolved into the greater hive complex of EAD? I know Sakamoto is still around, and the music people have been the same since Super Metroid but other than that it is kind of a mystery who is actually making this thing.

Doubly so since Itagaki stormed out of Team Ninja and took a bunch of people with him.

Is that how you feel about the Prime trilogy?

The Prime trilogy is the myriad of comic spin-offs.

Honestly, Metroid Other M or whatever is just causing me to kind of yawn.  The rather bland Samus, the hyperkinetic editing of the trailer, and the emphasis on lots of stylized action and even what looks like a quick-time event.  The backgrounds were also kind of generic sci-fi backgrounds, look like they could have been plucked from Phantasy Star Online or anywhere in the Prime series.  I love Metroid, and I'm excited we're getting another following regular continuity(?), but I'd like to see more than a rather uninspiring trailer to get me fired up.

Actually, this almost describes my reaction to E3 this year.  A glut of sequels, a few lame teasers (I'm looking at you, Metal Gear Solid Rising), and basically a trickle of information on games I already knew about.  Stuff like Last Guardian and the Monkey Island series getting some love are the most exciting things I heard about.  Borderlands looks interesting, if a little bit Fallout.  Add to that a bunch of peripheral announcements, and it was all just kind of mundane some far.

It looked kinda rough and hastily cut.  Might've just been an "in progress" glimpse with existing assets.

Either way, "more talking" was not something I was looking for in a Metroid game.
