I've taken E3 in general with a tablespoon of salt for as long as I can remember.  It's basically an irritatingly compressed flood of gaming news that will not become relevant for several months or even years.  They're making a new Metal Gear and (honestly not bad-looking but not Metroid) Metroid?  Good on them.  Wake me up when it's here.

I may also be still bitter about the hype machine ultimately destroying Smash Bros and Spore for me, so you know.

I'm just happy we're getting a Metroid period.  I wouldn't have been surprised if the Prime Trilogy was the end of the series for the foreseeable future.

Quote from: IGN
"There's a tendency among the press to attribute the creation of a game to a single person," says Warren Spector, creator of Thief and Deus Ex.

Knowing IGN, I bet they wrote that without even a hint of irony, too.

It looked kinda rough and hastily cut.  Might've just been an "in progress" glimpse with existing assets.

Looked all-new to me. Samus's power suit has been redesigned and the enemies appear to be completely new models (the space pirate getting the Stone Cold Stunner looks like the Fusion version for example).

Honestly, Metroid Other M or whatever

That is what it's called. It's OK, you don't have to add "or whatever" just to make sure we know how unimpressed you are.

Metroid Other M: Other mother? What?

...
Metroid: Brother from Another Mother.

:perfect:

People bitch that Nintendo just keeps making the same games over and over, but that's SHIT. I WANT Nintendo to make a Zelda and a Mario, that's why I like Nintendo. Not to mention there's more inovation in one level of Super Mario Galaxy than in most full AAA games. SO shut up Nintendo haters, SHUT UP!!!!

Who the fuck are you talking to?

As much as I loved Super Metroid, Fusion and Zero Mission (and disliked the entire Prime series), I'm pretty excited at the prospect of Samus actually getting some form of character development beyond being a generic mute Aryan encased in suit of space armor.

Hell, she could spout Duke Nukem one liners for all I care because it'd be more than we've gotten so far.

I agree with Spram though, I would love to see some Pilotwings or F-Zero on the Wii.  Less so on the part where Nintendo releases the same shit over and over with an uneven coat of paint though.  I'm pretty burnt out on Zeldas that bring nothing interesting to the table (hey check out twilight princess it's like Link to the Past except you turn into a wolf!) and when they try, it has two left feet (oh boy look at all this FUCKING OCEAN TO SAIL oh yeah press a to counter and win the battle immediately with your bug eyed link).

Lee-Ham, you're a nice, smart guy.  But you cannot possibly hope to argue in any known form of rhetoric or with any possible logic that Metroid Other M is not a stupid name.  In fact, it sounds like the name of the project while in development.  So get all off of my grills, dingbat.

Exactly.  Everyone knows how stupid it is, so there's no reason to point it out.

Except, Metroid Fusion was a stupid name and Nintendo kept it.  So there is every reason to keep rubbing Nintendo's nose in it.

The only stupid video game names are the ones that sound like progressive rock bands.

Except you're not rubbing Nintendo's nose in it. You're rubbing our noses in it.

Anyway, Other M is a great title, for one reason and one reason only:

I agree with whoever said more talking sucks. I don't like talking. I like being in a scary alien world and not knowing where to go or what to do and slowly piecing things together. It's like they forgot how to write Metroid, or caved to stupid fans who wanted more story driven plots.

In fact, I'd attribute all of Nintendo's latest shitty games to stupid fans wanting to fit things into continuity. It's bullshit.

Then again if it's only flashback FMVs or something I won't care.

I was totally with you up to that last sentence. The exact point I stopped caring about Metroid Prime 2 was when Samus accessed the "visual recording" of the other human soldiers getting slaughtered. The recording didn't really work very hard to maintain the illusion that this was a visual record of a soldier whose unit was being slaughtered rather than a canned cutscene the designers decided to include at that point. Up to that point, I was still hoping against hope that the designers had some kind of coherent design philosophy.

Yeah, but that's a botched recording whereas a memory every time I solve a huge puzzle (like finding an artifact ala MP1) would not be so bad.

Furthering the Metroid universe with more talking humans isn't going to immediately enamor fans.

We've all our own ideas of what the Galaxy Police and livable worlds should look like, and now Team Ninja gets to poke their dicks in the pie first.

As long as it's all one continuous world, and interruptions are far and few between, like after a WTF moment, or right before an epic boss, I'll be happy.

What ruined the last prime game for me was the multiple planets bullshit where the entire point of Metroid is lost.  I actually liked the other bounty hunters bit, but it would've been better if you just wound up meeting them while exploring and they went crazy and attacked you.  They wound up feeling like they didn't have enough personality, but the bits were they were developed at all sucked because of the non-metroidiness of them.

And what made Fusion not as good as it would've been was the constant computer cutscenes.  The SA-X cutscenes were actually well done, but the go here, now go here, I know you already know exactly what to do but we need to interrupt you with this text first scenes were infuriating.

I really, really enjoyed Fusion, but yeah, definitely could have done without a cutscene in every elevator trip. They did a decent enough job with the story, so it was hard to hate them for it, but I much preferred Prime's approach on putting the narrative in the scan details, letting you choose to explore the story as you would the planet.

And yes, Corruption hauling you off to six different planets was planets of ass. Not a lot stuck with me in that game, whereas with the first two Prime titles I can pretty much visualize the entire planet after all the exploration I did. The feeling that you were far, far away from your ship at a lot of points in Prime made it feel a lot more satisfying, as it forced you to recognize landmarks and piece together a roadmap in your mind.

Unless you're one of those ninnys that sat around rotating your 3D cybercube for half the game trying to get your bearings. USE YOUR INSTINCTS

EDIT: changed "ass" to "planets of ass"

To be fair, the 3D cybercube didn't do much for me other than give me a headache.
