Is the rest of the series an arcade flight shooter game? That trailer has sort of sparked my interest in it, and I'm looking at a $20 used copy of Ace Combat 6 at my local gamestop. Worth it?

Ace combat is like my favourite series ever! If you can grab any of the playstation ones, go for it! 6 is awesome too. :D
They're arcadey in that like, some of your planes have over 300 missiles and you can defeat entire armies on your own, pretty much. And drop bombs on city blocks and just kill the tanks that are nearby without damaging the buildings.

But yeah, they have really great music, and they totally make you feel like a badass, they're great games.

Yeah, I find it weird that they are dumping the Ace Combat World of Osea and Belkan and Yuktabonia and all that. But haven't they done that and gone with normal earth once before?

Part of the reason for the whole Ace Combat made up world with mostly real world jets is because of the game's original intent. Originally it was actually going to be an Area 88 game, I shit you not. That's why the first game is all about this ragtag band of merc pilots that end up stopping a criminal/terrorist plot. But something happened and they couldn't get the license so they ended up just making their own universe for the game. Area 88 took place on normal earth except for its main setting which was a fictional north african country called Asran (or Aslan) that was sort of like a less unfortunate version of Afganistan mixed with Iran and Egypt's history and stuck other next to or on top of where Egypt should be on the world map.

I guess when they started moving in the direction of not being based on an existing IP like that, they said "Hey, lets just make the whole world fictional places."

why play excitebike or oregontrail when you can have both?

So Long, Oregon. Let's go find El Dorado.

Didn't a Bronto make an LP of this?

Supposedly that game's really upgraded since then.  They added multiplayer and hunting.

If you go back to the actual interview (which is very interesting and the thing your link quotes is really just an afterthought) he never mentions DuckTales.

What he wants to make is a Carl Barks game. Which is even better.

Just some of the animations Paul Robertson did for the Scott Piligrm game.

I actually bought the game. I like it a lot. It's a RPG sidescrolling brawler.  It's got a nice almost Earthbound feel.  Up to four players can play, you canr level up your characters and buy them moves, there are hidden places on each stage, and the art is indeed great looking.

OH. Music is pretty nice and there are apparently bonus game modes?
I'm hearing talk of ZOMBIE MODE. So that's something.

I deleted my post because of regret from one of the individuals involved, but after Mechafetus/Amanaguchi were put on the project, additional development staff was added less for having relevant skills than for being on good terms with certain people at Ubi, which stalled progress; the game got cancelled internally, but no third parties were willing to take on the project, so it went back to Ubi's original team with Chinese contractors. Apparently the Chinese were great and they wished they could have taken over responsibility for even more stuff (e.g. the rest of the lackluster sound design). The final boss was (unsurprisingly) originally a huge cockbeast that all the penises had to be censored out of by the Chinese; there may or may not have also been dickgirls at some point. A lot of random things also got changed, like the character faces in the pre-battle profile images, etc. They didn't really want to make it all grindy but marketing insisted.

Ys Seven tomorrow!

Falcom's been having a bit of a renaissance since they decided to focus on making fast-paced dungeon crawls a few years ago.  The advance reports and videos suggest Ys7 is like Secret of Mana at about 3 times the speed, and in a refreshing change of pace the developers insist the main story is a solid 35 hours.

For me, seeing the Ys games become genuinely fun around Oath in Felghana was kind of like the fat, shy, dumpy kid you knew and stuck up for in high school sending you postcards while he travels the world in search of adventure, opportunity, and just generally being the most interesting guy you know.  Pretty excited!
