Hey, you guys like complaining about things: How are you all still talking about PC shooters when Sony unveiled their new handheld monstrosity just yesterday morning.

so stupid

the PSP has a lot of killer games on it though, and as Parish the Sagacious mentioned it's the last bastion of oldschool Japanese gamedev... but if the PSP2 is too much more powerful, they'll probably just jump to the 3DS and keep making the kinds of games they are making now, but with random-ass 3D gimmicks or something

I dunno if remy could be called "sagacious" but he is pretty well tuned in to the opinions of gamers six months ahead of when they realize they have those opinions.

I don't think anyone so laconic that they verge on the narcoleptic should be called "Remy".

Honestly i'm expecting the usual sony botches of forgetting to have enough ram and vastly overselling the graphical capabilities (remember how powerful the emotion engine was supposed to be?)

plus the non-removable battery is stupid as fuck

Would you have preferred it if I had said "it's like carpet you can touch on the back" instead?

Hardware designers in general won't be satisfied until we'd be absolutely mortified to be seen playing our video games.  Making a portable device that the player constantly looks like he's trying to bring to orgasm is pretty much an instant kill.

My question is will it be powerful enough to handle SNES emulation?

And yes I am aware of the irony of wanting a new, cutting edge portable console just so I can play decades old games.

Yeah, I remember right before the 3DS announcement I was reading an interview with somebody at Nintendo (Iwata?) criticizing 3D glasses and saying people wouldn't want to game with them in public because they look ridiculous.

I also remember wondering if anyone had told him that his company made games that require the player to blow into the handheld.

just buy a Caanoo.

Didn't know the new GP2X model was out; neat (though I'm not sure how that round thing compares to a D-pad; I've tried playing Genesis games with the Street Fighter pad and while it's got the right button layout the "floating pad" feels, well, floaty).  I looked at those things for awhile, then wondered why not just get a PSP, then thought, you know, I've already got a stack of games I haven't finished, and I bought a new monitor instead.  Because I use my monitor all day even if I'm not gaming.

So instead of a Bulletstorm demo, EA and Epic made this Call of Duty parody which is hilarious, but not really worth downloading when you can just watch it. Here is a video of TotalBiscuit playing through it. If you can't handle a brit being amused by what he sees, I'm sure you can find a video without that.

WTF is Duty Calls? (It's a Call of Duty parody and blatant marketing ploy)

The end may have the greatest screenshot potential of all time

Since you seem like the #1 Bulletstorm fan, can you give me a list of reasons it is going to be good? I am too lazy to look for them myself, and the initial things I heard about the game are nothing special.

Imagine if in Tony Hawk, instead of finding the perfect line for your huge combo, you described that combo with creative use of enemy flesh. I don't really care about the over the top attitude of the characters, though it is theme appropriate for the over the top shit you do to people, I just fucking love the idea of a combo based FPS that directly rewards you for how creatively you murder everything in sight. I say directly reward because the currency to upgrade your weapons and abilities is the points you earn from the skill shot kills. So the more creative you are, the more options become available, allowing you to be more creative, and so on.

I'm not calling this thing a work of art or anything, it's just exactly the kind of ultra-violent, tongue-in-cheek fun that FPS games have been missing since the rise of serious business military shooters.

To be fair, Bioshock tried to be this, but it didn't make it that far past I'M FIRIN' BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

I haven't played the sequel on account of DRM but I hear the reason it sucked was mostly trying to play things completely straight.

What? You're fucking high. The skillshot system has nothing in common with Bioshock, except that in Bioshock you could combine certain powers. There was no benefit to doing it other than a slightly more effective result. Bulletstorm is built entirely around using you guns, abilities, and the environment to kill your enemies in the most extravagant manner possible. That's a pretty far cry from "zap people who are in water".
