Monaco's up for preorder at one buck fifty off; it comes out in a week. Dang it feels like the first time I heard of that game was forever ago.

I don't know what it is about that sort of line of sight system that gets me so frikkin' hard.

Sprites have the same problem that traditional animation has right now - not only is CG more popular, but when the infrastructure is already in place to support it it's actually a lot cheaper too.

Yeah, I'm aware that making sprites is a way more costly proposition, but Yoshi's Island and the Mario and Luigi games are both representative of some of the best spritework that Nintendo themselves have ever done.  That makes these games being polygonal feel way dirtier than say, the New Super Mario Bros. series or the new Link to the Past.  Yoshi's Island is particularly egregious, since the brief bit they showed looks almost like one of those shitty SNES claymation games.

New plot to LttP2: It turns out that curse that made your magic meter 1/2 is now killing you, so you have to collect the pike, the pig nose, the hoof, the cape, and the Wizard costume of Ganon and resurrect him so you can kill him again

Everybody knows all you need to resurrect Ganon is to spill Link's blood on his ashes.

That's totally not creepy for a seven year old.

This plot will never get old, and I will 110% play it if Link can change up partners as he progresses through the game, with his final choice of partner changing the ending sequence subtly.

But then Zero shows up in the next game anyway.

On the one hand, if it's half as good as LttP then it's probably worth buying a 3DS for.

On the other, the footage they've released makes it look painfully like a rehash by people who think LttP's appeal comes from its mechanics, its tiles, and its enemies.  The most exciting thing in the video is Link turning into one of the hieroglyphics from the beginning of Wind Waker; I am hoping that this is a useful power that broadens the areas you can explore instead of something like that zippy top thing from TP that you use on one dungeon and that's pretty much it.

Me, I'm a whole lot more curious about Bugs vs. Tanks -- because it is an Inafune game, it is not a sequel, and it is called Bugs vs. Tanks -- than any of the announcements that are actually grabbing headlines.

Also, hey, a legal way to play Earthbound without spending $600 on the copy at the used game store.

The most likely scenario for this game is that the team started off prototyping a remake of Link to the Past, then, when experimenting with the best ways to use stereoscopic 3D to represent the layering features, decided that there was a mechanic there that was worth exploring in a game of its own.

I don't mind a bit if that's the case, since off-the-rails remakes of classic Zelda gave us both Oracles games.

Neverwinter went open beta and announced plans to stay F2P at the end of April.

Overall it's a pretty generic real money marketplace MMO, but there are highlights worth mentioning. Combat is TERA-esque in that there's no auto-attack and everything is cursor-aimed, which they work D&D into well enough. Your two main attacks are from a (so far small) selection of 'at-wills' for your class, 'encounter' powers are cooldowns and 'dailies' require an action point which you can only have one of at a time and build up through what is essentially a rage meter.

The story is as good as any Neverwinter game has been so far, and it carries over features that Thads in the audience may be interested in. I haven't delved into the creator tools at all, but a large part of the game is player-created instances that are completely public and ranked based off other player ratings. No word yet on if they're offering any dev jobs from them, but it should be worth looking in to.

So uh Fez is finally out for PC. I didn't buy it because I have serious issues with Phil thinking he's a big rad rockstar developer when he's more of a nerd that can't keep his mouth shut.

But I did play it. If you play it, I reccomend the following:

- Avoid getting the purple cubes until the end of game. Most of them are acquired by solving inane code puzzles, and you're really only getting the best value out of the game by solving all gold cubes before you end the game once and get the flying cheat.

- Still you need a couple of purple cubes, because some gold cubes are hidden behind retarded puzzles like the owl puzzle too.

- You can get 65 cubes. Don't. The secret ending only plays if you get 64 cubes.

- The secret ending is not worth it, so if you're gonna solve the purple cubes by looking up the answer, just go watch the ending on youtube.

The Adam Orth affair of the previous page (the rumor that the next Microsoft console will require a permanent internet connection, and the termination of the Microsoft employee who said some tone-deaf things about it) is now over for ever and ever for real.

If it has good netcode, I'm switching to that for my main game, and given that P4A has amazing netcode, I am optimistic. It should be noted here that those are not sprites, and they're basically doing what SFIV did, only MUCH MUCH better.

Huh.  I honestly didn't expect that to ever happen.

Not sure if I agree with the limited-frame stuff, but if it makes a better fighting game, okay.

God, though, those faces.  Do not want Tales of Guilty Gear.
