here's the thing

dump threads are very easy to post in, but nobody will ever read them

they function quite a bit like IRC channels. there isn't really a topic; everybody will just babble for a few minutes about one thing and then move on.

i'm not closing this thread. as much as i hate dump threads, this one is probably a decent idea (because it focuses on current events and upcoming bullshit) and would just get replaced by a very similar thread.

the "babble about a videogame" thread was just a poor idea. if someone wants to discuss a game that there isn't a thread for, they could make a thread and maybe people would actually discuss it. and then people who want to read about people's opinions on a game can go there and see all the posts on the topic in one spot instead of having to dig through a 200 page dump.

Wasn't the entire idea behind the Babble thread to cut down on pointless go-nowhere threads? And that if there was a conversation in it that actually was going somewhere, that it would get separated into its own thread?

that's the idea, but it's kinda annoying in practice. A lot of times conversation will get mixed with people posting about several games in a single post, making it impossible to split without breaking up other conversations.

People don't like making new topics, but I don't think it will hurt if we do so. If people don't talk about a game, it drops off the page and it doesn't get in the way anymore. I don't think "too many topics" will be a concern on a board this size.

I don't really see how even if there's a bunch of topics with only one post in them on individual games how it might be a bad thing; And if it is messy, I'm sure it's easier for a mod to delete them after it's been shown that noone but the OP cares than to split 5-10 posts out of the dump thread where something else might be discussed simultaneously.
