Oh yeah! I forgot that I live in the city that they're developing this. Now applied to playtest.

After watching the trailer, I'm not so annoyed by the newscaster's ridiculous collar as I am by how the second half of the trailer turns into the protagonist trying to look cool while killing as many dudes as possible.  That and "I'll take you to hell!" make the project about as mindlessly generic as it could get.

Yeah, the trailer did not excite me either, but I am pinning my hopes on the chance that it was intended for the lobotomized shooter-playing masses.

He also walked like he had a stick up his ass and broke his legs every five minutes.

You also spent most of your time hiding in vents because direct conflict would result in broken legs.

Don't forget that midway through the tutorial you would end up crawling on the floor with every limb on you body broken wishing to die, but the game would not give you that release since it was the tutorial.

Fashion aside, I hate how the city looks all futuristic in 2027.  Did they really rebuild the whole city in 17 years?

Well, it really didn't work when they tried normal human timetables for reconstruction.  The "Exhaust every last able-bodied resident with overwork so they can't burn down the other parts of the city plan," long name aside, was quite effective when enacted in 2015 after the city was entirely leveled due to the... well, you guys already know rest.  Anyway, the future look aside, it's still very much racially self-segregated.

I'm not expecting a good game from this so I am just hoping for a shiny new game that can stand up to the first game better than Invisible War.

The first game isn't even that good. Yeah, I said it.

Yeah, Deus Ex was a terrible game! Just like Half-Life and System Shock 2 and Starcraft and Morrowind and Alpha Centauri.

Nobody's saying it was a terrible game.  It was a very solid game.  But it was not the great masterwork that fans keep jizzing themselves thinking about.  Many of the mechanics - like the whole locational injury thing - sound good on paper but just blow in actual play, and the storyline was pants-on-head retarded.  It reads like if Hideo Kojima shed a chromosome and got a Geocities page in trade.

Well, I think they're going to try, dammit. At least that's what I am understanding from this article. I'm cautiously hopeful about it.

Deus Ex is overrated, but Morrowind just plain sucks. I'm not saying Deus Ex wasn't amazing in a lot of ways, but it was jenky as fuck, the stealth was terrible, and the characters were mostly cliche'd and/or transparent.

I don't like Deus Ex but that's a symptom of my personal tastes and not a critique of the game.  I just can't get off unless my guns are constantly blazing.

...oh, erm, and the game is slow-paced too.

Here's some Human Revolution gameplay videos. Poor quality, but it gets the point across.

Crackdown 2 Demo up on the XBL Marketplace, for those interested.

I enjoyed the first game a whole lot, and the second one really doesn't disappoint, but it's not much to get excited over either unless you're a big co-op person. It really feels like it carries on 90% of the spirit of the game in both good and bad ways.

So EVO 2k is going on. It can be seen at Stickam . However the stream is so unwatchable, and it's being put out by G4 and will be on their station for 3 days I think? I think they should have left the streaming to the actual players.

Doublefine is working on four new games, none of which are Brutal Legend 2.

I'm not surprised that there isn't going to be a Brutal Legend 2. Disappointed, but not surprised. If they had stripped out the entire RTS theme and focused entirely on the adventures of Eddie Riggs, it would have been a truly awesome game. And had they focused entirely on making an Action RTS with three distinct campaigns to play through, it would have still been a pretty great game. But they tried making two complete games in one, and even did a surprisingly good job at it, but ended up with lackluster results.

Quote
people dissing on Invisible War

I still can't quite understand why people hate DX2 so much. I admit that it wasn't as good as the first, but it had a good mix of action and going around town exploring/talking to everyone (well, until Antarctica, but that's like the 3rd quarter of the game - and mind you, DX1 had the same problem around when you went to Vandenberg), the actual shooting/sneaking around was fun and enjoyable, the inventory system was much less of a pain in the ass (yes, DX1's inventory tetris screen was awful, don't deny it), and the story was ridiculous, but in a fun way. (Every conspiracy in the world is fighting every other conspiracy! It's up to YOU to choose the winner!) The only real complaints I have with the game are that the loading times are atrocious, the areas are a bit small (which exacerbates the loading problem), and universal ammo is a stupid fucking idea and whoever thought it up should be shot. Aside from those issues, it's really a very good game!

On the trailer: You know what the Deus Ex series really needed? Flashy over the top JRPG cutscenes. Thank you Square for showing us the way! I actually am looking forward to the game, but fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

EDIT: The problem with replying to stickies is that I assume the posts on the last page are all somewhat recent.  :slow:
