Since when have concerned North American parents ever given a crap about violence or disturbing content?
But throw sex in and WHOA NOW BETTER PROTEST THAT SHIT
they'd probably flip their shit over the main SMT series.
i mean you KILL GOD on more than one occasion
To be fair, while the god you kill is the god of Abraham, it is not the creator of the universe and is really just a dick who manipulates humanity for his own purposes and wants to do away with free will. You also get to kill Lucifer (who's generally much harder, also there's a difference between him and Satan) and he's really just a big 'ol anarchist who hates everything.
The whole thing is absolute Law versus absolute chaos. The good (and canon) ending is to kill both of them and lead a to world of moderation. This same basic plot reoccurs in most if not all of the main series and the DS games.
Oh, and the sex stuff isn't really new. It's certainly been more subtle, but it's always been there. Just look at Mara.
Don't you actually play as Jesus in the first SMT game?
No, you just have the burden of the fate of all of humanity thrust on to your shoulders. You actually get to kill Jesus, well, you get to kill the messiah who's aligned with god anyway.
The basic premise is that gods/demons exist, but they're invisible and we can't really do much to them nor them to us, also none of them like us very much unless they're childish and/or stupid. It's by and for the Japanese, and the writers don't really give a fuck about what western audiences think.
