3DS will be at least $250, possibly as high as $300 at launch

Quote
Well, at the announced Japanese list price of ¥25,000 ($300), it’s also the most expensive Nintendo product at launch in history. The previous three most expensive items were the Gamecube ($200), Virtual Boy ($180) and Nintendo DS (at launch – $150). Even adjusted for inflation, the 3DS is the most expensive Nintendo product of all-time. It’s a bit odd for a company who’s reputation is built on family friendly products.
The Super Famicom was ¥25,000, the N64 was ¥25,000, the Gamecube was ¥25,000, the Wii was ¥25,000.

So, the Japanese price is not an indicator of the price abroad in any way shape or form.  Yet us foolish foreign swine forget this every time they release something, taking our prices as standard rather than theirs.  Remember, while white (usually christian) men are the invisible standard in all of Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc., Japanese men are the standard invisible in Japan.

Or that the Japanese price is absolutely an indicator of the price abroad, but the dollar is weaker versus the yen now than it was in past years.

Game stuff tends to be more expensive than japan when adjusted for inflation if I recall correctly, so I think cait is right. Japan, as a society, is willing to pay more for luxury goods.

The Super Famicom was ¥25,000, the N64 was ¥25,000, the Gamecube was ¥25,000, the Wii was ¥25,000.

So this handheld will be the same price as a new console?  That would place it in the $200-$250 range in North America.

Yes, which is different from the $250-300 Mongrel was suggesting.

Though I was guessing $200 at its unveiling, right now I would be shocked if it was anything other than $250.

Remember that we are talking about a goddam portable non-glasses 3D movie player here.

I really don't think it's inconceivable that a few people might consider $250 to be a fair price for that.

The point is that, by Niku's logic, it won't "possibly" be $300 like you said.

No, it's not a huge difference, and there is an overlap.  I'm sorry if my post offended you.

It's probably gonna be 249.99 at most, putting it out of mongrel's price range entirely.

I also wasn't arguing against Mongrel so much as I was against whoever that fucking retard was that he quoted.  I don't think $300 is outside the realm of possibility, but I also don't think they're going to be ballsy enough to go that high.

Remember that there is only about a $50 dollar difference in price between a DSiXL and a Wii.  At $200, it would be the price of the Wii currently.  At $250, it would be the price of the Wii at launch, but seeing as it has only slightly less power, is portable, and again 3D, that price would make sense.

It will be between $200 and $250, with probability lying on the pricey side of the spectrum.

Nah, if I was offended, I would have posted a long disjointed rant or something. :imagination:

I knew it was a complaint against the article, because... I hadn't really said anything myself that wasn't a direct quote!

So Sega is asking for all of its games to be taken off the shelves. They say they want to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.

It's a strange, ballsy move. Something they haven't done in years. I commend them for it. Whether or not anything good comes of it, its a right step if you ask me.

i've been reading this thread for years and have never, ever had a good enough computer or up to date enough console to play most of the games that get talked about in it.  this HAS to be a metaphor for something.

no, okay.  here: i'm vicariously experiencing games generally designed to provide some kind of vicarious experience.  i guess that's not a metaphor so much as just sad?
