Gabe Newell has gigantic, clanking brass balls
Gabe Newell stellt IPT für Steam auf der Cebit 2011 vorFor some background, this is a fairly potent demonstration of a new, optional, security tool coming to Steam that allows Steam to take advantage of a feature of the new Sandy Bridge generation of the Core series that lets you key your Steam account to a specific computer, supposedly infallibly. I imagine it has to do with the fact that processors are significantly more unique than fingerprints. This does remove the ability to use Steam's ability to play your games on any computer, but because it's completely optional that's not really a problem, just a judgement call. Personally, I don't play my games on more than one PC, so I might think of taking advantage of this, since my Steam account runs into the thousands of dollars at this point, whereas if I were more on the move, and had, say, a gaming laptop I took with me places, I might not.
