Unreal Engine running in Flash

Pretty fucking intensive, as you might expect, but it's damned interesting that we're even talking about it.  And it could be a lifeline for Flash.

Hotfile's next.

Quote from: Ars
The studios argued Hotfile is not eligible for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's Safe Harbor provision, in part because the site did not terminate repeat infringers, or identify and keep track of infringers. The studios accessed Hotfile data through the litigation discovery process, and say the infringement notices sent to Hotfile by copyright owners revealed a "staggering" number of repeat infringers. Hotfile owner Anton Titov "has a direct financial stake in Hotfile's extensive infringing activities, which he took active steps to enable," the court filing states.

Hotfile argues that it is eligible for DMCA safe harbor provisions because it has taken steps including registering a DMCA agent, and informing users about its repeat infringer policy. Throughout the site's three-year history Hotfile says it has provided a "report abuse" form for content owners to send DMCA takedown notices, and has taken down links in response.

I don't use Hotfile; I assume it has individual user accounts and it would be trivial to ban repeat offenders?

That said, the question of whether Big Content can FORCE a private company to disable accounts from paying(?) customers based on a three-strikes (or even fifty-strikes) rule is kind of an important one with widespread ramifications.

Keiji Inafune sez, Japanese game makers five years behind

Inafune on the sad state of Japanese gaming

Quote
There are a lot of specific problems, but a good example would be that this is GDC. It's the Game Developers Conference. Out of the Japanese creators, how many of the major ones are here at the show? It's very limited, and that itself states that Japan is not taking global business seriously. They should be here at the show, giving sessions and mingling with the rest of the world more, intentionally. But I don't see that, and that's one of the biggest problems...that Japan is not looking at the global perspective. We all know for sure that we have to go global, but the actions are not there.

Quote
I believe that in Western or other parts of the world, they all liked Japanese games from the past and benefitted from them. They had a significant amount of influence in game development around the world, but that's all from the past. Because Japan is not in a healthy state right now, not everybody is being influenced by us now.

Quote
There are great big franchises like Skyrim, great titles for the iOS, the Call of Duty franchise, of course. But in Japan, there is nothing like Call of Duty or a similar franchise, so there aren't any titles spending a lot of development costs. There's nothing big, and no iOS titles that can go global. Though the Western development scene may have its own problems, it's way healthier than the state of Japan right now.

Quote
I have to be careful with the Capcom questions. I probably feel the same way as all the Mega Man fans. All I can say is I hope to see the new Mega Man because I've left a lot of people with my DNA [at Capcom]. But if they can't, I'm always open if Capcom asks us to be the developer. We'd take it.

A slide from Inafune's GDC talk, in which he teased that he's working on a PlayStation Vita game.

Definitely walking the talk there.

Sooo not a sequel, apparently.

Wonder if it'll use the NWN engine or something less obvious (seeing as I don't see BioWare's name on there).

Reading the source code for the page in previous days talks about the infinity engine.. So I'm wondering if they're just cranking it up to work at modern resolutions?

The company making it, Overhaul Games, has released one other game, MDK2, which was also Bioware-developed. So I guess this is kind of their thing now.

And there was much rejoicing.

Infinity Engine updated to 5e, scheduled to coincide with launch of that edition's core rulebooks.

PS3 TOKYO JUNGLE PV

A side-scrolling beat-em-up set in a ruined post-humanity Tokyo where you play different types of animals in a fight for survival and dominance.

Kill Screen's Rob Dubbin interviews Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe.  Interesting talk about the Good Old Days, and also apparently there's a Kickstarter project for a new Larry game.
