Platinum Games talking about putting their games on PC.

Just had a quick backstage at The International with Gabe from Valve. It was inspiring. We got the impression that they are a very open-minded company

Valve, you have the money to do this. Don't make them go to Kickstarter, just fund it.

Also, Gabe Newell's beard is so jolly I can't take it.

Also, good god does Gabe ever look so much better with a beard. Though it sure makes him look a hell of a lot older than 49.

It's harder to see multiple chins through a beard.

When a guy who used to work at Capcom visits Valve HQ, I'm sure there's some point in the tour where he just goes slack-jawed and stops moving and they have to reboot his brain somehow. It must be like a Russian athlete attending a competition in the US during the cold war. "This is how you guys are running one of the most profitable game companies in the world? Why the hell are we bothering with the developer concentration camps back home then? Can I stay? Please tell me I can stay. They have my family, can you help with that?"

Bearded Gabe Newell looks like George Lucas.

Oh no, Platinum has to pony up the $100 for Greenlight just like everyone else.

The difference is that unlike Valve, Platinum actually makes games.

I think they're mainly talking about using Kickstarter to get enough money to fund their own game to release on PC, not porting over stuff like Vanquish and Bayonetta.

Let's hope they mean both.  I'd get Bayonetta on PC.

Oh god, just imagine the horrible pornographic mods that would ensue if Bayonetta came out on PC.

All of which would somehow invariably manage to be less erotic than the game itself.

Retro City Rampage is finally out (google it). It isn't as cheap as some games at 15 bucks, but it's still way cheaper than any NES game we ever bought and it's probably way better than pretty much any of them. For a game that is truly one guy's crazy vision, that he has been working on in some capacity for years, and that he was originally making in assembly code so that he could release it as an actual NES cartridge, I think it's a fair price. The guy worked his ass off to make this thing, and it's pretty cray-cray.

This sounds pretty awesome, I never really played wing commander, but i loved the hell out of freespace, and open world space games are awesome as heck. And this one sounds amazing.

I like how they blatantly stole the kickstarter format, but are actually doing this entirely through their own website.

I looked it up, and found this.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/10/11/star-citizen-eschewing-kickstarter-to-talk-to-gamers-directly/

"“The problem I have with Kickstarter is that it’s better than the publisher setup, but it’s still another party,” he said of the decision"

It makes sense, I guess, if you can do it all yourself, you may as well.

Can't remember if there's a Wii U topic.  Anyway: Wii U gamepad has a one-frame latency.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/10/rayman-developer-wii-u-gamepad-latency-is-160th-of-a-second/

The tone of the article really torques me off.  Hey, I think that's a pretty noticable and significant delay, and I'm not exactly a Kayin.  Apparently for touchscreen games it's offset by just showing stuff on the gamepad a frame early... uh, which means there's a couple frames of video lag too.  Eeeurgh.

Looks like we're all set for another Nintendo console that's only really good for games built around its control gimmick, surprise surprise.
