You might want to ask Brentai.

I'm also interested in seeing the aerial view maps of each, to see how they would combine (presumably using something like MCEdit).

I have BigShell mapped out and available, but I don't have anything like that for zanzibarland.
I also miss non-survival minecraft.

(Note: the bigshell map was a couple weeks out of date when bigshell went down)

Someone set an acre of forest on fire. It's actually somewhat useful because monsters will walk into the flaming logs, and you can walk around picking up leather and pork. I saw a spider climb a tree and burn at the top.

also skeletons and zombies are surviving direct sunlight, what's with that

That was me, in an attempt to quell the creeper uprising.

Or Joxam for the same reason.

Or our friend Kyle who didn't know how flint and steel worked.

There have been a lot of forest fires started.

If you want to quell the monster invasion, you will have to demolish Ryg's stuff. It's all his fault.

All. His. Fault.

Do we still have a random chance of falling in to the water at the spawn?

Yes. You can't build near spawn or someone could build a nice circular platform to keep us all dry. With a roof and windows and a chest full of bread

Oh. I think I can do that. I'll get on that when I get a bit of free time today.

Okay I have put a platform over most of the spawn area, and it is bright enough that monsters shouldn't spawn all over it even if you spawn off the side of it.

Monsters never seemed to spawn into actual spawn. Hell, they seemed to break if they tried to follow you into it. It was really just a matter of falling into the drink and having to find a half-assed way to get out since you couldn't build or destroy any blocks near there.

More troublesome was the few times it spawned me inside the rock.

As I understand it, the spawn are in multiplayer is "protected" to a certain size (which is apparently variable?), which means that:

1 - You can't destroy things within the spawn area.
2 - Mobs don't spawn there.
3 - You can't have the spawn indoors (it will mess up up and toss you at the nearest outdoor location.

Unfortunately, I've never played with those settings myself, so I'm not sure how to manipulate them.

Hey look at that big pretty text up there.

Also I set the spawn protection size on Zanzibar Land to 0 squares, so feel free to cover the entire thing with lava.

J.D. I redid the main entrance of your stuff to cut down on possible creeper invasions. Nothing changed too much in the hall itself and everything that isn't the same was reused. It still needs a defensive system since enemies can build up outside the doorway, but for now at least you can see if they are and they can't get in, even if people forget to close doors.

Are you guys noticing cubes of landscape falling out of the Matrix, like so?

The spaces come back if you drop and reconnect to the server, but they pop up with increasing frequency as the session continues, and usually in the same locations. I wasn't sure if this is a common feature in the current version of multiplayer, or if this was unique to Big Shell.
