You can make paper out of sugar cane fiber in the real world, so I wouldn't worry.

I like the idea that it's been sugar cane all along, but nobody ever tried to eat it until now.

As of like two hours ago:

Quote
New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!

Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

Is Lapis Lazuli like Redstone in that it will not appear in chunks generated before the update?

My guess is "yes," because otherwise it's just randomly replacing blocks which is a bad thing.

Charcoal is pretty cool, also dispensers, also possibly bonemeal. Friendly mobs seemed to spawn with less light requirements for me, but I could be mistaken. Spiders are annoying.

The new dyes are crafted as follows: Red from red flower, yellow from yellow flower, green from furnaced cactus, blue from the new lapis lazuli ore, and white from bones dropped by skeletons. Black comes from ink sacks dropped by squids, new friendly underwater monsters. You can mix dyes to make orange, cyan, purple, grey, light blue, pink, lime green, light grey and magenta dyes. Cocoa beans produce brown dye, but there are no cocoa beans yet.

There are also black, dark grey and light grey sheep, who drop that colour of wool. You can dye sheep, and when you shear them you'll get that colour of wool.

Items are given official names now. Gunpowder is actually sulphur, hellstone is now netherrack, slowstone is soul sand, mossy cobblestone is moss stone, stone halfblocks are stone slabs, and adminium is bedrock. The watch is called clock. Log is now wood, and the block created from it is now known as wooden planks.

Four sand can be crafted into standstone. Furnacing wood log turns it into charcoal, which works like coal except it's a renewable resource. Charcoal can be used to craft torches or used as fuel in a furnace.

Can spiders climb along a ceiling? If not, a one block outcropping at the edge of your wall should sort them out. I'm glad I lined the edge of my castle with burning netherrack.

Regarding the names of things, those have been there since the start of the beta, not since this latest update.

Also, as expected, bones = instant wheat and instant trees.

Doku RPG file fixes post-update, for those of you that use it:

These are unofficial, but seem to work (besides paintings).

Minecraft Note Blocks - Portal Still Alive

Remember how people used to post all those videos of songs created in Nintendo paint or whatever-the-hell-it-was-called?

I guess we've found this generation's replacement for that.

Dear owner of the Neutronium Mines,

You have a lot of cobblestone. I really want it, do you?

Love, Beat Bandit.

Dear Beat Bandit,

Do you mean the cobblestone in the chests near the top of the stairway? Please help yourself.

I didn't actually see it, but JD finding a creeper inside a house because I left the door open sounds hilarious.

I will try not to leave doors open.

Apparently doors have always been a problem online. I just figured since that was the most basic circuit nothing else worked either.
