You're annoyingly hungry all the time if you don't snack, at least until your body readjusts after a couple weeks.

Exercise takes a long damn time to stop sucking and start really feeling good; for me, it was three months before I no longer loathed running.

Maybe it's because I've never been that unhealthy but when I started giving a crap about my physical state it didn't take much more than a few days of teeth gritting to get into the flow of things.

That was of course back when I had my own apartment.  You know what really kills diets?  Peer pressure.  Or at least general social concerns.  When you're cutting back and everyone decides to go to McDonald's you have two options: tag along and get the smallest portions you can, or be That Guy.  You Don't Wanna Be That Guy.

Pffft, just go swimming instead of running.  Good exercise and more fun than running.

In terms of simply becoming UNHUGE running is more to almost twice as efficient as swimming.  Swimming of course has the advantage of doubling as a strength and coordination exercise, not causing any real stress on your lower body like running does, and being an actually enjoyable activity.  Of course there are concerns re: time like Peebird mentioned, but also general crowding in public/shared swimming pools and weather.  Also water that's heavily chlorinated/salty will ruin your skin if you dunk yourself in it too much, which doesn't sound like a very manly thing to say but it's kind of uncomfortable.

You're silly.  Swimming is just far more awesome than running and it works more muscles and water is awesome.

I lift weights.

I went from being a fat guy with pathetic stick arms to a fat guy who has to make sure his shoulders are not constantly knocking people and shelves over.

Now I am going to attempt to push it to the limit and increase my weight. I like doing sets of squats that are so intense that I am dizzy once I manage to safely set the bar down. I'm spotted during, of course.

I do not think I will be satisfied until I actually am Heavy Weapons Guy.

You know what helps do the "grit your teeth and adjust to the flow over a few days"? A partner. My dad taught me all this and we work out together, I just lifted whatever he told me to for the first three months.

Two years later and my progress has stalled dramatically because I've gotta come up with my own plans and routines now. God damnit.

I bought an exercise bike a few months ago, but I'm fucking bad at using it. I miss paying some $50 bucks a semester for Ju Jitsu and free access to the o on campus gyms.... not that I used them.

It's 'cause you have a girlfriend.

I think that kills a lot of people's will to do stuff after a while. I know it killed mine.  :nyoro~n:

I certainly gained weight when I started dating Kazz.  Try 20 lbs.  I blame him, what with bringing me delicious snacks and fattening chinese food.

It goes without saying, but it's also really helpful to have something you can pay attention to while you're exercising or working out.

When I lived in an apartment with a fitness center, I would be in there on the tread mill, bike or bowflex just reading a book or watching a movie.  Always made it ten times easier for me.

Yeah, one thing I liked about not being underwater, it's that I can listen to music and lose myself in a song. It's almost absurd how much easier it becomes when your attention is on something other than "oh god oh dear god when will this stop i am too fat for this auughh"

I've found podcasts are good for running, as I'm too busy listening to pay attention to how much running sucks.

So I'd like to have a diet that involves no cooking or preperation. Like not even making cereal preperation. Obviosuly fruits, nuts and some vegetables fit into this, but outside of that I'm not really sure. Anybody have any reccomendations for how to balance a diet like that, or maybe links to info on it? I know there are people who practice a raw diet, so  I figure there has got to be info on how to do this out there somewhere.

Does putting meat on bread count as food preparation?

EDIT: Guess so.  Well nobody says you can't sit around with a bad of cold cuts and eat slices of roast beef like some sort of barbarian.

I should note I'm open to pre-packaged food, I just don't know what pre-packaged food is healthy. Basically I've been watching my portions adn working out recently and losing weight, but I'm still eating really really unhealthily. Lot's of fast food and frozen dinners. I'd like to try and leverage my own sloth at home towards my health by making it easier to eat something instant and healthy than to go grab fast food. Note: Because I'm crazy I'd rather grab fast food than make a sandwhich.

Well to start with, there's a spillion and one frozen meals that have "HEALTHY HEART", "EATING RIGHT", "LEAN CUISINE" and so on plastered all over the box, so you can start there.  Still, eating frozen dinners all the time will kill you one way or another.  You've already mentioned mastery of the "buy a 5 lb. bag of apples... and eat them!" method, so we'll skip that.  And like I said, you can munch deli meats and cheeses right out of the ziploc, although you'll look like a lazy idiot doing it.

If you're eating out all the time there's always Subway.  Yeah Jared's an annoying gimp but the calorie counts are sound - you can even go footlong and put everything on it and you'll have a huge balanced meal that's still not going to kill your weight too much.  The only DO NOTs are mustard and mayonnaise which I personally hate anyway, and fancy shit like Philly Cheesesteak and Prime Rib subs.

Outside of that place you start to take your weight into your own hands though.  Quizno's especially makes McDonald's look like Jenny Craig, if you can believe it.

Also what Rico said, but whatever, it's better than sitting there and eating chips I guess.

One of the people my room mate role plays with online is randomly a nutritionist and basically set me up. Apparently the missing element of meat protein can be provided with pre-cooked cubed and seasoned chicken breast, something I didn't know existed. Nuts, milk, vegetables, fruits, and pre-cubed chicken diet here I come.

Still, eating frozen dinners all the time will kill you one way or another.

But all the best foods are frozen!

If you freeze grapes and eat them while they are still frozen, they can become up to 35% more delicious (during the warmer parts of the year, anyway).
